Monday’s Musings #6.

Good morning to all of you! The sun is shining, the sky is a fantastic, vivid blue. And all the trees and shrubs with their many varied greens are gently waving in the morning breeze. It is a wonderful, tranquil morning here at Steve’s Country. It has cooled off after our first few hot days of summer, with a temp of 59F (15C) this morning. A beautiful morning to be sitting here on the deck with my coffee. The blue jays have been busy gathering peanuts, the hairy woodpecker has been here a couple of times too. Pocket has been busy since shortly after 5am getting his peanuts.

Sir George had his breakfast at 5am, he was quite talkative this morning as he ate. “How are you today Sir George?” Yep,yep. “That’s good.” Yep,yep. “Yes, there was a lot of storms. I hope your nest didn’t get washed away.” Yep,yep. “Everything is fine? That’s good to hear.” Yep,yep. “Yes, my flowers got a little beat up in the rain. Do you ever see any ladyslippers while you’re flying around?” Yep,yep. “Yes, I heard there was some down the river, but I would need a boat to get there.” Yep,yep. “No, I don’t think I will try swimming.” Yep,yep. “Okay, bye.”

And off he goes. Grover finally showed up, I gave him some pieces of bread, he seems to enjoy that as much as peanuts. Jasmine showed up too. She was sitting over by the stairs eating her peanut when Pocket came for more. She came running over right away and Pocket disappeared quickly so she stopped without continuing the chase. “That’s better” I said to Jasmine. Chip. “Yes, a little chase like that is okay, just don’t hurt the chipmunks.” Chip. “Thank you, have another peanut.” Chip. “You’re welcome.” Chip. “Yes, it’s okay to chase the other squirrels, but try not to hurt Jasper.” Chip. “No, not even a little bit. Here, have another peanut.” Chip. And off she goes with it, and doesn’t come back.

One of the male hummingbirds shows up at the feeder, drinks just a little, then off he goes once more. They don’t come around quite as often right now, there are so many flowers for them now, but they still stop by briefly every day. It’s just hard to know when they might show up now, so getting pictures isn’t easy. The last of our summer birds has finally arrived, the “common nighthawk”. They are not actually a hawk, but an insect eating bird. They are only here about 2 months, beginning to leave in early August. It’s nice to listen to them at night as they fly around after mosquitoes, moths and other insects. Time to get more coffee. I hope you all have a marvelous Monday and God bless!

    • Good morning Nina! Yep, my critters and I like to talk with each other. It’s fun imagining what they might say, by their different actions. Thanks so much, have a wonderful day as well Nina! Lovely new pic I see!😀🖐😻😻☕☕

      • It’s fun too imagining their different voices! Quite a cartoon. Yes, a new pic. Thanks for noticing. 😊 I just now posted a couple of pics of a cool looking bug I saw while in the garden. 😊🖐😺😺🐞

      • It would make for an interesting cartoon, I need to practice my drawing ability which isn’t very good at the moment! That is an amazing insect Nina. Has the look of a shield bug or stink bug. There’s another possibility too but I can’t think of the name. So many different varieties of insects!😀🖐😸😸🐞🦗🦋🐛🐜🐝

      • I looked up your bug and it looks like it could be a birch shield bug. The amount of red can vary quite a bit apparently from one individual to another. The general shape certainly fits shield and stink bugs. Whatever it is it’s a great one to find!😃🖐😻

      • After I read your comment, Steve I got online and checked it out. Cool! Shield bugs and stink bugs are related, right? I see plenty of the plain green types—but not this and green kind. Beautiful. The man faced stink bug sure is neat too. 😊🖐😻

      • Yes, they are related, same family and amazing colors sometimes. And those colors can vary even with the same kind. I’m finding that out with some dragonflies I’m still trying to identify! I’m on my way to try and find some more on the way to the river. I pray that bear stays away, that was a bit scary last evening! Have a great day Nina!😃🖐😻🌞

      • I just read your post about the bear. That would give me quite a scare! Bang on the pots and pans and make a ruckus.
        Enjoy your day, Steve. We have unusual cool weather for us. I even had a small fire in the stove this morning. Chilly! Off to town for me…

      • Hmm, pots and pans, great idea! Why didn’t I think of that? Already close by in case it happens again!
        It has been a fantastic day, beautiful walk to the river, so nice down there, calm, just a light breeze popped up now and then. Saw 6 different dragonflies, got a picture of one. One was so cool, but he wouldn’t sit down! Maybe next time, but some of these dragonflies don’t live long and I don’t get down there often enough. Oh well.
        That is chilly, and we are way above normal. Had a deer tick stuck on me today, and another one walking around, first ones of the year. Have a great evening Nina!😃🖐😻🐻🙀😳

  2. Nice shot of Purple finch… both of them are cuter ❤️ had a good talk with Sir George and Jasmine 😉 This Geranium looks nice, not the best one, still a beautiful one. It was a good day, not an awesome Monday 😒😼 Lot of calls, I hate talking that much 🙄 anyway, the day is over.. off to a peaceful night..😄
