While the girls were getting ready for bed, and the cats looking out the window, I decided to check the news. Suddenly I drop my phone saying, “Noooooo”, and groaning. Kat came running over, as did Candace. With tears in my eyes I said, “take a look at the news.” Kat checked and she started to cry, then showed the phone to Candace. “How is that possible?”, said Candace quietly. Meow, meow?=Tell us, what happen? Kat turned and told them that Baldwin’s plane had exploded in a huge fireball about 5 minutes after takeoff. There were no survivors it said.
The remains of the bodies of the pilot, co-pilot, Baldwin and a young unidentified boy were found. “We failed kittens,” I said, rather choked up, “we failed big time. We lost Anthony and my best friend.” “It isn’t your fault Steve,” said Candace, “you did everything you could to keep Anthony safe. But I’m really sorry you lost your friend. I know, you’re wondering why I’m not crying too, but Anthony and I never really knew each other, not as family, we only met a few times, and to him I was just another employee of the company. But how did they know Anthony was on that jet?” I looked up. “Yes, how did they know, how could they put a bomb on that plane,” I said slowly.
“They wouldn’t need to Steve,” said Kat, “a man with a hand held rocket launcher could take down that jet easily. The main thing is how they even knew.” “They always seem to be one step ahead of us,” I said, “that would suggest someone is telling them. But I know that none of us are telling them. Sorry to say this Candace, but the cats and I have been watching you carefully to make sure you couldn’t send a message. That’s just part of being a PI.” “Yes, I know,” she said with a smile, “everyone is a suspect in a case.” “Yep, that’s about it,” I said. Meow!=Something strange, everyone leaving hotel in hurry. “Grab your stuff and let’s go!” I yelled to the girls.
“We need to get dressed,” said Kat. “No time, just take what you can and go!”, I said again. This is a small hotel, only 12 rooms, it was full, except for this one room. It was meant to be that way! The back exit was locked so I shot the lock off and out we went and jumped into our car. Meow.=Car okay, no one went near, I watch good. Then it hit me, why didn’t I see that before? “Toss your phones in the air, one at a time,” I said, “and quickly!” I did mine too, and I shot each of them. Then off we went. “That’s how they knew ahead of time,” said Kat. “Yes,” I said, “mine should be protected from that, but obviously it wasn’t.” As we pulled out of the parking lot the hotel crumbled in a series of explosions.
“That’s why all the people,” I said, “they set the explosives after we arrived, that’s why there was so much activity in there. Once they finished, they left in a hurry.” I quickly turned off the main highway that went through town when I saw the police heading this way with the fire truck and ambulance. The girls quickly got dressed while we drove. After they passed we turned back onto the highway. “Um, don’t you think it would be good to drive a little faster?”, asked Kat. “No, I don’t want to attract any attention,” I said, “but we should probably get a different car to use.” As we went on we came to another small town and a bus was waiting to leave. We quickly stopped and got tickets to our destination and soon we were on our way.
“This isn’t perfect though,” I said, “they will find our car sitting there eventually, even though I hid it around behind that old building with the other junk cars. But it might give us some time anyway.” Meow, meow.=Man and woman up front were in hotel. I tell the girls what we are going to do. We go up and Candace asks the bus driver to stop for 2 minutes because I was feeling sick. He sighed but stopped at a small pull off spot. I asked the man and woman to come with us and I showed them my gun. They looked at each other, but they came along. Outside I asked them who they were working for. They didn’t give the right answer, so I shot them with my dart gun. Then we pushed them over the edge of the hill and I tossed their phones away. We got back on the bus and I told the driver the other couple wanted to stay there, so off we drove. It should be getting light when we arrive at our destination.
