The Investigators, Inc. The Old House. Chapter 12.
What an ordeal that was. That was the worst yet by far. When I turned and that guy let loose and started shooting, bullets were flying everywhere. Fortunately most of them missed us, but they still did their job, knocking us all to the floor so fast that we didn’t have a chance to return fire. After hitting us he went for the girls in the other room, starting with Jo, then Susan, but that’s when M.C. stopped him. Yet one bullet still hit Brandi, in the shoulder area, so it wasn’t so bad. She was the least hurt. Jo and Susan were killed, which is what Cinnamon wanted most, though she also wanted Kat and Brenda (Annelie).
Annelie was hit 3 times, once in the leg and arm, the other in her abdomen, which was serious. Jennifer was hit twice, her left arm and her abdomen, which was also serious. Kat was hit twice, her left arm and one bullet next to her heart. The doctor said that Muffin’s purring saved her life. One of Cinnamon’s bullets just grazed M.C.’s leg, so his aim was off when he shot her which is why he got her hip. Still, it must have really damaged Cinnamon’s hip. The police never found any trace of her, she just disappeared, and there is only one road out of that place.
They did find another secret room, but no one had been in it for many years. So where did she go? How did she manage to get away? Hospitals near and far were alerted to be on the lookout for a young woman with a broken hip. In the main secret room the police found Brandi’s little boy, who Cinnamon had left for dead, but he recovered just fine. Brandi and her boy are living at Calanthe’s chateau and she is already working at the resort. Calanthe needed the extra help since it took a long time for Jennifer and Annelie to recover, however, they are now back home but not yet working. Kat recovered amazingly fast, even the doctor was very surprised by her recovery.
As for me, well, I was hit in my left arm with one bullet, and another hit next to my spine again, almost in the same place as the last time. But the same surgeon that removed the first bullet, removed this one too. I have been in the hospital for 2 months now, under heavy guard all that time, Baldwin insisted. He said I need to stay alive, he wants me to be the best man at his wedding. It seems he and Brandi really got along well and Baldwin loves the little boy, whose name is Willie. Baldwin always told me he’s never getting married. It was just a matter of time. “Well, today’s the big day,” said Kat, “you finally get to come home.”
“Yes, I’m happy for all the care they gave me here,” I said, “but I’m still glad to get out of here too!” Everyone was at our place for the welcome home party. As I came driving into the library, Muffin and M.C. came running and jumping onto my lap. Meow,meow!=I so happy you back home again! And soon you not need chair with wheels, I know it! Meow.=That what I say too, we help you get back walking again. Yep, I am in a wheelchair now, that will certainly hamper my ability to be a PI, but I’m not giving up yet. There are still lots of cases to solve. But maybe we’ll stay with finding lost pets, or something like that, for a while. I wonder where that next case will take us?

So good to know that so many of you recovered. Your investigations always seem to be dangerous and cause damage to you. Take a long rest before taking another case. Can’t see you searching for lost pets! Blessings!

Already had a 2 month rest, though not a very enjoyable one. Think I’ll let Kat pick the next one for us. After these last few cases, a simple one might be a bit boring.
