The Investigators, Inc. Sleepy Town Mystery. Chapter 12, The Chateau.

Time dragged on, it was a long stay at that hospital but finally it was time to go home. Well, our new home anyway. It was expensive but Baldwin would not tell us how much. He sold his resort and our property, plus added a bit to buy this chateau in eastern France. It is 3 stories tall, with two towers that are each 4 stories. It looks like a small castle. Baldwin has installed his best security system in the chateau, plus all around the property. It is a beautiful place, though for now I would be confined to the main floor due to my wheelchair. Baldwin suggested we could easily put in an elevator which not a bad idea, I would like to see the whole place.

Looks like I am stuck in the wheelchair, for now anyway, my legs just do not want to work. But how can I continue as a PI in a wheelchair? It is not exactly a fast means of escape. Plus there would be too many places I could not go. I could stay at home and organize things, but that just does not work for me. I am not sending others out into danger while I stay safely at home. But right now we still have our new foe to deal with. Why has he not done anything lately? Was he just waiting for us to get out of the hospital?

Baldwin is building a private hospital here, he says we need our own place where we can recover in safety. He has hospitals in other countries that he uses for his own employees, so it is not a new thing. Our regular doctor will be coming to work there which will be nice. Mr. Chung is here visiting with us right now. “Well Mr. Chung,” I begin to ask, “will you stay and work with us?” “Yes, I have thought much about it and talked with everyone,” he answered, “I would like to stay and work with you.” “That is great to hear,” I said with a smile, “it will be very nice having you with us!” “I am especially happy Mr. Chung,” said Kat as she gave him a big hug.

“But I must insist, you call me Chung, you are my friends now,” he said. “Okay Chung,” I said, “that is a deal.” He smiled and then said it was time for tea, so he and Kat went off to the kitchen. I was sitting in a big chair and Jennifer came over and sat with me. “There is something wrong,” she said, “I can tell. Is it that nightmare you had?” “I keep thinking about that, but that is not it,” I said, “but something is bothering me, something is not right. I keep thinking we are being watched.” “The cats and all of us have gone over this place Steve,” she said, “there is nothing wrong here at all.”

“Maybe it is just me,” I said, “but it scares me, I am in no position to fight back.” “Well, you have us to protect you”, she answered, “and the cats are always with you at night, all 3 of them.” And she laughed. “Okay, what are you 2 laughing at?”, asked Kat as she brought the tea in for us.” “Just about the 3 cats in the house,” replied Jennifer. “Hey, be careful, don’t forget you are a Kat too now and then!” And they both started laughing. Once we were all together in the library we started talking about things. “Chung, have you ever heard of General Liu Wei?”, I asked.

He went from smiling to frowning terribly fast. “He is an evil man, you do not want to cross paths with him,” he said. “We already have done that,” I said, “and now he is after us, trying to kill all of us. What do you know about him that might help us?” “Not much, he is secret man, not much to know,” Chung began, “but each year he goes to a little town, with a castle, in Europe somewhere. He owns this place, he has secret chamber with much wealth. There are secret locks in halls that lead the way. He goes each year to put more in there that he has stolen from people.

He believes no one can kill him, so he does not have many guards. No one would try, they are too afraid.” “Have you seen this town?”, I ask. “No, but I saw picture, many years ago, I not forget that terrible place,” he said shaking his head. Kat went over to him and showed him pictures on her phone. “Is it this place?,” she asked. “Yes, yes, that is the place!”, he exclaimed, “it is bad, bad place, not want to look.” “That is where we were,” said Kat looking at me. “I am sorry to keep asking Chung, but do you know when the General goes there?”, I ask. “Always on new moon of this month,” he said slowly.

To Be Continued.

    • It would be better to bring him out somewhere else, but I think he is too smart for that. And I am sure he will have some surprises waiting if we go there. But what else can we do? I just wish I was able to walk, so can I even go along?πŸ€”πŸ˜³πŸ‘±β€β™€οΈπŸ˜ΎπŸ˜ΎπŸ‘±β€β™€οΈπŸ‘©πŸ‘©πŸ˜πŸ˜ŠπŸ•΅οΈβ€β™‚οΈ

  1. Perhaps your legs can work …maybe you have been given something to prevent your mobility…like you said you need to be actively involved in this situation…confer with the cats…on the β€œ sly β€œ…πŸ•΅οΈβ€β™‚οΈπŸ‘©πŸ‘©πŸ‘©πŸ˜ΌπŸ˜ΌπŸŽ„

    • It happened when I landed on the rocks and it damaged my spine somehow so I can’t move my legs. I might have to sit this one out and let the others handle it. Maybe. I am constantly consulting with the cats on these things these days, too much happening. We’ll see what happens.πŸ˜³πŸ‘±β€β™€οΈπŸ˜ΎπŸ˜ΎπŸ‘±β€β™€οΈπŸ‘©πŸ‘©πŸ˜πŸ˜ŠπŸ•΅οΈβ€β™‚οΈ
