For a smile as wide as a country sunrise
Good morning everyone and Happy April! Wow, hard to believe that April is here already, yet it still looks and feels like winter. There is ground showing in places, such as south facing hillsides which get a lot of sun, but that is about it. In the yard here there are still piles of snow that are 7 feet tall. It will take some warm temperatures to melt all that snow. And nothing like that is in the forecast. The entire month is supposed to be well below normal for temperatures.
It could be 3 or 4 more weeks before I can walk to the river without any snow or ice around. Today it should be 41F (5C), but tomorrow only 32F (0C). There is not much bird activity here this morning. The chickadees and nuthatches are busy, but there is only a few redpolls and a dozen evening grosbeaks showed up for about 20 minutes, then they left again. My 2 regular blue jays are here, and, there was a female purple finch at the feeder this morning.
I thought I heard one yesterday, but today is proof, the first of the new season. Nice that I got to see her on the 1st day of April. This is a new month, the real beginning of spring for us, though much different than it used to be. We could count on snow being gone no later than April 5 to 7. Not anymore. Mostly it seems the snow will stay until at least the third week of April, 2 weeks longer than what was once normal.
But winter has been getting longer and colder over the past 20 years or so. At least this month we can look forward to the snow melting completely, and that is truly when spring begins, when the snow is gone. Pocket came back yesterday! He is one of my chipmunks and lives next door somewhere. It was so nice to see him again, though oddly he was a little nervous about coming to me.
But he has been gone for 6 months. It will not take long for him to be friendly again. It just has to warm up a bit more so I can sit out there each day. The clouds have cleared away now and the sun is shining so beautifully now. Have a fantastic day everyone and God bless!

Have you ever thought about writing a childrenβs book about your feathered and furry friends, illustrated with your photos?

Hmm, that’s the first time anyone has suggested that idea. I’m not really sure if I would really be qualified for something like that since I have never had children myself, so writing something that might be relatable to kids could be hard. Something to think about though, thank you for that!ππΊ

I donβt think anyone is « qualifiedΒ Β» to write books for kids but they all love animals and Iβm sure your tales would be well-received.

I will start gathering some ideas together and do a bit of writing to see how it works.
