Wandering Through Wednesday. #14

Good morning everyone! It’s rather dull looking outside right now. Very heavy clouds and it is snowing. There was an inch (2.5cm) of new snow outside this morning when I went to feed the birds, a very wet snow as the temperature hovers right around 32F (0C). Oddly there are not many birds around this morning. Although just now a small flock of chickadees showed up, 8 birds in all. Plus 4 red-breasted nuthatches, 2 pair, the males do not get along too well now that spring is here.

And a female hairy woodpecker showed up, all at the same time. Now, there are 3 suet feeders hanging out there, a female was at one, the woodpecker at one and one was empty, that is, no one at that one. But the male did not want the empty one, he wanted the one the woodpecker was feasting on. Now there is a big difference in size between those birds so it did not work out well and the nuthatch had to settle for the other suet feeder.

The evening grosbeaks were here earlier, about 20 of them, but they only stayed about 10 minutes and left again. Sir George and Lady Pearl had their breakfast earlier this morning. Another gull was around with them too but never came down for food so it obviously was not one of my gulls. Sir Henry and his mate, Lady Patricia, have not come back yet, neither has Sir Charles. He must be single as he has never brought a mate around with him.

And Rickie, the ring-billed gull, has not arrived yet either. Sir Henry is the most friendly of them all and he will try very hard to get my attention if I do not come out right away. It is so dark inside I need to have lights on. And, after a brief break, it is snowing heavily again. But at least we are not getting the amount of snow that was forecast for us, so that is okay.

People up this way are finished with winter now, it is time for spring, and rain, not snow. But we get what we get, this kind of weather is quite normal for us now. April used to be a spring month, now it is a late winter month. It is amazing how much things have changed for our spring time. Time for more coffee, thank you for stopping by today, have a wonderful Wednesday and God bless!

    • They wouldn’t be nest building in this weather, besides, the lakes are still frozen, nest building won’t be until May this year. But not all gulls are back yet. Yep, snowing here again now too. Have a good night!😊😻❄️❄️❄️😴😴
