The Investigators, Inc. The Sniper Mystery. Chapter 8. Intruder.

The day had gone by quickly, it was now dark outside when MC came in to tell me about the noise upstairs. I got everyone together. “Annelie, you, Aurela and Storm take the back stairs,” I said, “Lajla, Muffin, MC and I will take the front stairs and we will have this intruder between us. Remember, it is likely Stinger, so do not take chances.” “I wonder why the others have not come back yet?”, asked Annelie, “they should have been here by now. Hey, my phone is not working.”

It was the same for all of us, something was interfering with our phones. “Hmm, that is odd,” I said, “it is just like when we were on the desert. So I guess we are on our own for now. That means if you see someone, shoot, no waiting.” We got out our flashlights, just in case we needed them and then…the lights went off and we were in total darkness. “Good thing we got these out when we did,” said Aurela. “It probably will not help, but activate your alarms cats,” I said, “you too Annelie, I have done mine.”

Good thing we cats can see in dark real good.

“I did too when the lights went out,” said Annelie. Meow, meow.=Ours done too now. “Perhaps we should all stay together,” I suggested. “That will make it harder to find Stinger, and easier for him to pick us off one at a time,” said Annelie. “I agree with Annelie,” said Lajla, “splitting up is safest for now.” “Okay, then off we go,” I said, “but perhaps we should not use our flashlights as we walk around, just makes us easier targets, and we will get used to the darkness quickly.”

So that is what we did and we all went slowly up to the second floor, then to the third floor. There was a large walk in closet to the right of the stairs and at the end of the hallway. I opened the door quickly and the cats ran inside to check it out. No one was in there fortunately. Then we slowly started checking each room until we met in the middle at the small library. The cats again ran in ahead of us, but no one was in there.

Yep, night time no problem for us.

Then we heard laughing from downstairs. “That is the Stinger,” whispered Aurela, “I remember that laugh of his.” “He must have made his way down to the second floor while we made our plans to come up here, now he is on the main floor,” I said quietly, “this is not going to be easy, we need to try and push him into a corner somehow so he has nowhere to go.” “Like into the basement,” suggested Annelie.

“Yes, that would work,” I said, “we go back down in our groups, but this time we will take the back stairs.” So we quickly made our way down the hall and then we all started down the stairs. I am wondering why the others are not back though, they are 2 hours late now. It is also strange that Baldwin has not come back yet with his bodyguards. It is not like him to miss a meal. But I did not want to say anything earlier to worry the others.

We made it to the main floor and checked all the rooms along the hall and were about to go into the library when we heard him laughing on the second floor. “We will never catch him this way,” said Annelie, “we will need to split up more and do both floors at the same time.” I did not like the idea, but she was right, it is the only way to do it. So Storm went with Annelie, MC with Lajla, Muffin with Aurela and I would be alone.

I went up to the second floor with Lajla. She said to take MC with me, it would be better. She was right I guess so that is how we did it. Aurela and I made it to the third floor with Muffin and MC and began checking rooms while the others checked the second floor. I felt that Stinger would be on the third floor by now so we were being extra careful. Then I heard shooting, he was after Aurela!

“Hey, where is everyone,” called Kat, “how come there is no food?” No answer, so everyone stopped. The lights were on now. Rock hollered loud for Annelie, but again, no answer. Everyone pulled out their guns. “Look, blood,” said Kristina. A trail of blood went from the stairs to the library, or from the library. Rock ran in. “Annelie!”, he exclaimed. Everyone ran into the library. Annelie was lying on the floor, in a pool of blood…

    • If he is still in the house he better have a big gun because he is going to have one angry Rock chasing after him! But because the lights are back on it’s quite possible he did his job and left. But does that mean everyone is dead? What about the cats? Did he get them too? Where are Aurela and Lajla? And me?๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿ™€๐Ÿ™€๐Ÿ™€๐Ÿ•ต๏ธ

      • Hmm, I think it would be suicidal for him to stay behind, the whole team is there now and he won’t be able to play around with them like he did with us. I think Rock would break his bones into little pieces for what he did.๐Ÿ˜

      • Yep, I’m sure he would like to as well.๐Ÿ˜  But if Stinger had stayed, it would have been smarter to leave the lights off, he would have a better chance of getting a couple more.๐Ÿค”

      • Maybe so the others would not think there was a problem at first when they came home. He doesn’t realize that my team would know there was a problem right away when no one answered. But it is kind of strange, I agree. He must have had a reason for it.๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ˜Ÿ

      • Yes, that is an odd thing to do. Though we never did check, maybe he just turned off the power, simple to turn it on again, but that is in the basement, how would he get down there with all of us on the main floor at the time? Someone would have seen or heard something. And he was already upstairs before the lights went off. Unless he had help.๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ˜ฌ

      • No idea, but I doubt any change is happening yet. The snow out here stayed hard as ice all day even though the temp was 52. The problem is water after all the snow and ice is gone. There is one area about 20 feet across and too deep to walk through that will be full of water this spring. There’s just no way around it since the path crosses a wet area and that’s the narrowest spot. Probably this week though, and her window too will be open so she will be happy.๐ŸŒž๐Ÿ˜ป Yep, the sun shines tomorrow, so it can be seen that is, shining today too, just a little hard to see. Although it was out a few times around noon and I thought it was clearing, but not so. Supposed to clear overnight though and have a nice sunny sunrise!๐ŸŒž๐Ÿ˜Ž๐Ÿ˜ Should be better than all that snow this morning anyway!๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜น๐Ÿ˜น

      • Unfortunately where the sun rises now I can’t get a picture of it, unless it’s a colorful one, then the colors will show, but that usually means rain so I hope there’s no color!๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜น๐ŸŒž

I had three of them watching me as I left on my walk today. They watched walk back into the yard!๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ I tried chirping to them… they just put their noses in the air and ran up the tree!! Very rude on their part I thought!!๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿคญ

      • Maybe it was something you said? But you are supposed to chip, not chirp, so maybe that was the problem. And you should give them names, makes them feel important.
Yep, the one flew off the feeder into the air and landed 5 feet away! then that got the third one involved with the first one and they went chasing each other all over the trees. Squirrel 3 was Chase, squirrel 2 (jumper) was Jasper, squirrel one was Freddie.๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜น

Well, that time of the day of the night again to hit the hay with a mound of clay and hopefully stay till break of day then to get up so I can play up and down throughout the day and that is what I have to say!
Good night Dusty, sleeping well with sugared plums in your head, and more chatter coming your way on the tomorrow!๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜บ๐ŸŒ™๐Ÿ˜ด๐Ÿ˜ด

I’d tie a string to a brick and attach it to your ankle so you don’t float away!๐Ÿ˜ฌ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

Time for bed, early morning of shopping fun!

      • That’s a thought. Now here we get early winters, but they don’t stock winter boots until just before Christmas because that’s what they do in southern Ontario. We can have snow on the ground in October, 2 months before winter boots arrive at the store. Very strange.๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ™„

    • I don’t see how there could be, the team was out and the four of us were all together which was the plan. I wanted Stinger to come to the chateau so we could trap him. Unfortunately he was better prepared than I thought he would be. No traitors were needed for this one. Amazing we were not able to stop him though.๐Ÿค”๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿ™€๐Ÿ™€๐Ÿ™€๐Ÿ•ต๏ธ
