For a smile as wide as a country sunrise
Good morning on this bright, sunny first day of September! Time for a cup of coffee and a look at what is happening outside. Hmm, actually there is not much happening out there right now. It is going to be a hot day, at least for us it is hot. It could get up to about 90F (32C) today, which is quite hot for the first of September.
Then tomorrow it will be only 68F (20C), then gradually warming up back to 86F (30C) for Monday to Wednesday, before cooling off again. It can be hard when it goes up and down so drastically like that, but, that happens some years. Getting hot weather in September is not normal, but it does happen every few years.
Unfortunately it usually means a long cold winter will follow. However, I will not think about that for now and just enjoy the warmer weather. It still gets cool at night, even with hot days. So that helps to keep my apartment from getting too overly hot. I like heat, but it seems to be worse inside than outside at the same temperature. Oh well.
The chipmunks ended up being very busy yesterday afternoon. At least 5 of them were here. I have seen 2 so far this morning and there was quite a bit of bird activity earlier too. Chickadees, evening grosbeaks and blue jays were here. Also Sir Charles, one of my gulls, showed up briefly for some food too, then he left. None of the other gulls showed up. Sir Charles is not really a regular, even during the main part of summer.
He just shows up now and then. He normally is the last of the gulls to stay around in the fall. Well, look at that, Copper the squirrel has shown up for some food. He prefers eating sunflower seeds, which is good because that is what he is getting. The few peanuts I have left are just for special treats for the chipmunks, and for Scramble.
I might walk down to the river today since it is going to be so nice. I did some more fall cleaning yesterday, plus rearranging of shelf displays. In other words I made a big mess that I need to clean up today and get everything put in place so I do not kick things all around the room. Sigh. But that is the way it works with me.
It always becomes a bigger mess before it all gets straightened away properly once again. I thought it was time for introductions to some of the chipmunks again. Time to go put out more food for everyone. The featured image at top is Scramble the squirrel. I hope you all have a wonderful day and God bless!

I hope you got to the river. I also hope you are wrong about having a long cold winter!

Unfortunately I didn’t make it to the river today. I should have gone but I got busy with other things and the time slipped away too quickly! I’m hoping for a short mild winter, but then, I do that every year. The odd time I’m right.

Yes, that is so true, but can’t really complain though.

Another delightful visit! My family back in Montana is enduring a lengthy heatwave while we Buckeyes feel a bit of autumn at sunrise the past few mornings.

Our western provinces are getting that heatwave too, but it always seems to cool off by the time it gets here. But it did hit 93 today, tomorrow’s high will be 68 with thunderstorms.

Anita and I have been enjoying walks in the morning in similar temps to what you are getting. However, often September brings on what down here we call Indian Summer – any time from September 1 to late October. Any time you want to send us some cooler “Canadian air” we’ll be waiting! ๐

Well, today it hit 93 and sunny, tomorrow we are getting a strong north wind and a high of 68 with thunderstorms. I find those sudden temperature swings to be hard on my bones. Wish I could send you the cool weather!๐๐

A minister from Saskatchewan once complained, tongue in cheek, to how USA always blames Canada for winter cold air. โIt IS NOT OUR air! We got from somebody else so itโs not Canadaโs fault!โ ๐ ๐

I agree, we get it from somewhere else, like maybe Siberia, then we send it south because we like to share!๐๐น
