For a smile as wide as a country sunrise
Good morning on this beautiful, sunny Wednesday! It definitely is chilly in the morning now, but that is kind of normal for September. The days are getting shorter and the nights get longer, so the nights get chilly even if the days are warm. We are not getting as warm as was forecast for us this week, but it is still very nice for September. That is about to change on Friday when we return to normal temps for this time of year.
GPS, my smallest chipmunk, is still coming each day. Yesterday he was joined by Pocket and Coffee, both came for a while in the afternoon. I guess the warmer weather brought them back out. There were a lot of chickadees out here this morning, at least 20 and it could have been more. They did not stay long, just came in for their breakfast at 6:30 this morning.
They were out there when I came out with the feeder, so they were landing on the feeder as I was hanging it up. The blue jays have been here for their breakfast too, but still only 3 of them. I guess there must be other people in the area that are feeding birds now so that takes some of the birds that would normally come here. I miss having a large group of blue jays though.
They are so good at protecting the smaller birds during the winter. Oh well, maybe more will arrive. It will not be long and the leaves will be changing color, it is already noticeable on many trees. The rich green color is gone and yellow is just slightly beginning to show. Speaking of yellow, the last time I was down to the river there were flocks of warblers in the trees. I tried getting pictures which was next to impossible.
Warblers are small, colorful birds, about the size of a chickadee, about 5 inches (12.5cm) long. They vary a little in length depending on the species. I tried to focus in on one little bird and took some pictures, which I am showing today. Not perfectly focused, but these little birds never sit still, they are in constant motion, which makes it difficult to focus on them properly.
But they did not turn out too bad. They are all in their fall colors now which are much more muted than their spring colors. GPS is out here getting some peanuts and sunflower seeds. Now he has run off chattering, the neighbors cat must be around again. It should be a beautiful day, a perfect day to enjoy being outside. The top featured image is a view of our lake. Have a wonderful Wednesday everyone and God bless!
