The Investigators, Inc. The Warning Mystery. Chapter 12. Beaten.
I looked at poor Kristina, then realized that my left eye was still closed. I could see out of my right eye, though it was only partially open. I felt my face, then I looked at Kristina again. I had to check and see if she was still alive. Yes, she is breathing, but not easily, and her heart is beating quite normally. I was angry. I do not really care what they do to me, but what they did to Kristina…they had no reason to do this.
But who are they? I do not remember anyone, except the people who came to us in the cave. But I did not see them, I only heard what they said, and that was not much. I do not remember anything else. But how is that possible? I looked around. The landscape looked familiar, much like it did where we lived. Kristina was waking up now.
I asked her how she felt. She was in terrible pain and was having a hard time breathing. “We will find the people who did this Kristina,” I said as a promise to her, “can you walk?” I helped her get up and we began walking in a northwest direction. I am not really sure why, it is just a hunch. We soon came to the edge of our hill. There was a stream below, running between the two hills.
On the other hill, quite a distance away I saw a house. It must be quite large that I can see it from here. Poor Kristina, she can barely see out of her eyes, I am leading her along. Fortunately it is a nice grassy area along here. But going downhill and crossing that little stream was not easy. We were scratched up going through the bushes along the stream.
Once on top of the hill I could see where we were. That was our chateau in the distance! We rested for a while, then kept going until Kristina collapsed. We were close, so I walked over to the fence and set off the alarm. The girls came running out of the chateau, along with the cats. They were horrified at what they saw.
Sigurbjorn called Chung for the ambulances and he and Mriya were at our side quickly. Though for us it seemed like it took hours. We are now in my room at the clinic, it was better to keep us together for safety. Baldwin sent a security team to guard the clinic. Our team guarded the inside though. Chung told me that Kristina and I had bruises over our entire bodies, and we were swollen so badly it was hard to recognize us.
We tried to describe that beautiful scent to Chung, but it was hard, neither of us had smelled it before. Chung thought the scent was just there to make us breathe in more deeply and that it was some kind of gas to knock us out. But I could tell he was not telling us everything. He was worried about something.
I asked him what was wrong, but he just said not to worry about it right now, he only had suspicions right now anyway. Perhaps he is worried that gas might send me back to “nowhere” again. Baldwin cancelled the remainder of his business trip, even though it was important. He felt it was more important to be here at this time. Chung did not allow any visitors for us, not even Jenny or Baldwin, for 3 days.
Sigurbjorn had a recipe from her grandmother for making a homemade salve to treat our bruises. Chung had most of the ingredients and the rest the team was able to find locally. It really did help a lot. Finally Jennifer and Baldwin were allowed to visit us, but only for a short time. Chung was worried we had been drugged and beaten to get information from us.
But what information? And why do we not remember anything. Mriya told us they might have hypnotized us so we would not remember anything, or it could just be some drug which would do the same thing. They had learned nothing from Toledo, so I said to Baldwin to let him go, but track him. That is what he did. Two days later his body was found in a Paris hotel.
Lavina might have thought he talked since we let him go. I was hoping he would lead us to her. It does show that Lavina was keeping track of him, so perhaps she is not too far away. Kristina and I had not gone far either, we were only gone for exactly 24 hours.
The team searched the area where we had been dropped off but found nothing, except evidence that a helicopter had landed there. Is this part of the warning mystery? Or is it something new? For some reason I do not believe that Lavina is behind this…

Actually I did say, it was exactly 24 hours we had been gone. So they could not have taken us far. However, by plane they could have taken us to any of several different countries close by and still get us back in 24 hours. Whatever they wanted didn’t take long to get. 🤔👩😾😾😾🕵️♂️

Ok… I missed that part… this headache has me a little distracted.. I think the weather is changing here a bit and my neck has gotten terribly stiff and then I get a headache… and then I miss things when I read like how long you were gone and that they didn’t take you very far away…🤕🤕

Ouch, headaches are such terrible things. Now we just need to find out who is involved in this, I just don’t think it was Lavina, why, I’m not sure. But she vowed to kill me, not just beat me. If these people wanted information, what could they get from me that would be useful? Very strange indeed. 😯👩😾😾😾🕵️♂️

That is what we need to find out. I don’t know any important information, but the fact we were beaten shows that is what they were after. I don’t know enough about Baldwin’s companies to be of help to anyone, what I know is public info anyway. 🤔👩😾😾😾🕵️♂️

I still think the helicopter lead would be a good one to run down..😉 see how I worded that? Just like the Investigators on tv!😁

Very good! Yes, the team is working on that, unfortunately we never saw a helicopter at any time, so we could not help. It must have been a somewhat larger one though to hold them and us. There likely was at least 4 of them, the pilot and 3 others, maybe even more, unless they somehow knew there would be no resistance from us or our team. 🤔👩😾🕵️♂️🚁

Yes, that is true, which means up to the minute knowledge of what was going on around here. I still have not been updated on what has been going on around here. But right now I have other things to deal with. 🙄👩😾🕵️♂️

No one is telling me anything yet, not even Muffin. I ask her and she just says not to worry right now. That’s what they all say. But I must admit, I am still too sore to really care at the moment. Sigh. 😯👩🕵️♂️

Then it’s best to recover and then you can start to slow work back into the case.

Yep, I will start to catch up on news soon, then maybe I can begin getting things organized again. Perhaps some of the things they find out over the next few days will help me to remember something too. 🤔👩🕵️♂️

Kinda seems like it would be impossible without clues of any kind. It will be interesting to find out who our new adversary is though. If we meet, it will be only briefly. 🤔👩🕵️♂️

Did Chung do any blood tests to find out what they used to knock you out?🤔

Oddly there was no trace of anything in our system. He did x-rays too in case something had been implanted, but again nothing. 🤔👩🕵️♂️

Very thorough! Well that makes it bit more difficult, but not much to be learned from those anyway.

We will be getting an MRI done too, but Chung wants our bodies to heal more first. 🤔👩🕵️♂️

That’s a good Idea… but what can be found with an MRI that an x-ray doesn’t show?

It can check our brains and nervous system to see if something has been altered or damaged. Something had to be done besides just beating us half to death. I mean, Kristina knows nothing, and I know even less! 🤔👩🕵️♂️

Yes, that is for sure. It is very strange, and Chung still wants me to rest. How can I rest with all this going on? Hey, wait a minute, I never thought about that! Oh well, that is all until tomorrow’s chapter, don’t want to give away too much! 🤔👩🕵️♂️

Another puzzler ! I do not think that you were hypnotized…something is going on here…perhaps a powerful drug …I think you should have the cats with you at all times ! 🤔 Do not let your guard down ! 🕵️♂️👩🤭. !

It’s probably a good thing the cats were not with us before. If that was gas, they might have been killed since they are so small. But they will stay close once we are back home again. I hope we were not hypnotized, but it is a possibility. We will find out more today! 🤔👩🙀🙀🙀🕵️♂️

The fact that you and Kristina, remember very little is a clue in itself. It is someone who knows you ad has no problem coming onto your property, putting you under, beating you and finally letting you go. Surely, you have dealt with this individual previously. They are sophisticated and have lots of money!

I agree, they are a sophisticated bunch. But why they took us is still a mystery. Unless it was a trial run to let us know they can do what they want with us at any time. Another warning perhaps? But why warn us? That just makes us more watchful. But perhaps that is what they want, a test of wits. We must have had dealings with them in the past for sure. 🤔👩😾😾😾🕵️♂️
