Coffee For Friday. #24

Hello and Happy Friday to all of you! The sun is shining here right now, but it is a bit chilly. The temperature is 28F (-2C) at the moment and there is a north wind blowing. We had some snow flurries overnight and there is a light dusting of snow on the ground and deck this morning.

That kind of snow is not dangerous for walking on fortunately, but what I forgot, is that there was a bit of rain first, so everything was wet, then froze, then was covered with that light snow. So, when I went out to feed the birds, which was early enough that it was almost dark still, I stepped onto this ice and away I went! I should have realized that. But like I said, it was still quite dark out and I was not paying attention. Sigh.

Betty the blue jay, with her throat full of sunflower seeds.

The birds were already out there even though it was so dark, I could barely see those chickadees flying around. Even two of the blue jays, likely Baxter and Betty, were out there waiting for peanuts. Both the hairy and downy woodpeckers were here yesterday looking for food. I need to get some suet cakes made to put out for them now that the weather is colder.

Baxter gathering sunflower seeds.

It was nice to see them back again, even though it means that winter is near. Actually, when the temperature decides to stay below freezing, I say it is winter, even if there is no snow on the ground. But that is just me. For those who are reading my mystery story series, I will be doing an update post very soon on the characters and story. A lot has changed, and I know it is hard to keep up with everything, especially the different characters.

It was nice having that warm weather for a few days. I was able to do a lot outside such as getting the feeder pole up, washing the windows, getting the deck cleaned up and things put away for the winter. I still need to make a small stool to stand on for putting food on the feeder. That is a necessity since the feeder needs to be so high off the ground.

Another blue jay.

But it should all work very well this winter with the new changes to it. I think it should be safe enough to start using it now too. The evening grosbeaks are sure busy this morning, there is only a dozen of them left out of the 25 that were here before. Those birds can sure eat though! Each of the autumn pics used this week are from two years ago. Well, guess that is all for today, thank you so much for visiting with us. I hope you have a fabulous Friday everyone and God bless!

    • Oh my, it is still summer down there! Still, it is warmer than it normally would be now and we still have no snow, so that is always a plus!
It hurt terribly for a couple of hours, but lying down and resting helped, so now it’s not so bad. I should always realize that it might be slippery out there from now until spring. I hope you are doing well Sheri! πŸ˜ŠπŸ˜ΊπŸŒ›

      • Yeah, we’re not really sure what season it is anymore. It’s best just to go with it.
I’m glad some rest helped.. snow is great but ice can do some real damage.
I’m pretty tired but hanging in there, thank you for asking! πŸ˜Άβ€πŸŒ«οΈπŸ’€

No, really.. thank you for your concern. The Flu really is terrible this year so I’m definitely doing my best to stay warm, hydrated, and healthy. I hope you’re doing the same.

      • Ooh yeah.. I didn’t think about it but I bet. All that cold can’t be helping the sick either.

      • Yep, and there is a respiratory virus of some kind going around too which is hitting kids and teens mostly, putting a lot in the hospitals right across our province.
Yep, Muffin and I have a great time together! 😊😻
Well, it is not quite so cold as they said it would be, but we did get another inch of snow today, not bad really. It is 25F right now, which is also nice. 😁

      • RSV, yeah, we’ve been hearing about it too. It breaks my heart that so many little ones are getting hit by it.
25 is not nice! 25 is ‘it’s time to move’ weather! πŸ˜ΆπŸ˜‚

    • Muffin was sleeping at the time, which was good. 😴😺Yep, I feel okay now, it wasn’t serious really, though it did hurt at the time. But the pain went away quickly which was nice. Enjoy your Tuesday Simon! πŸ˜ƒπŸ˜»β˜•β˜•
