Coffee For Friday. #26

Good morning everyone and Happy Friday! Another week has come and gone, and we are fast arriving at the end of this year. Only about 6 weeks to go. Amazing really. I missed posting my morning coffee post yesterday, really I should be calling it my midday coffee post as it seems to get later all the time. Things happen. But I am going to try and get things back to morning again. I prefer it that way.

It is a chilly, or rather, a cold morning here today. It is the first morning when it really did feel cold, even though it is certainly not as cold as it gets in the winter. Getting that first breath of cold air into the lungs is a good way to suddenly wake up, if a person is having trouble that way. Trouble waking up, I mean. Which was not my problem. It was only 5F (-15C) first thing this morning. It has since warmed up to 9F (-13C). Heat wave.

Red-breasted nuthatch getting its breakfast of suet.

It was nice and clear, the moon was shining brightly and now it is mostly cloudy, though the sun is trying to shine somewhat through those clouds. We got another inch of snow yesterday and could get another inch tonight. Nothing serious by any means, just what I call ‘nuisance snow’. It has to be continually swept away so it does not build up and become a slippery problem.

White-breasted nuthatch. I have never seen one go after suet, just sunflower seeds.

I am not sure what happened to all my evening grosbeaks that were here for a couple of days. Perhaps they were just passing through heading somewhere else. There were none here yesterday and none so far today. Seems like it will be an odd winter for birds this year. I did have a small flock of redpolls here for 3 days as well, but they have disappeared also. That is definitely an odd thing. Usually once redpolls find the feeder, they stay. Oh well.

It will be interesting to see how things develop as we get more into winter. I have old windows in this apartment, and they tend to frost over when it gets cold, making it hard to see. It is getting that way already. But so far, I can still see what is going on outside. Which is nice. It would be terrible to feed the birds and not be able to see them. Muffin agrees with that. Although she prefers watching the chipmunks and squirrels, birds are the next best thing. And chipmunks are long gone now.

Ned, posing nicely for me.

Squirrels are just not regular visitors anymore, something else that is odd for this winter. Each winter has its differences. Hopefully next week I can try for a walk to the river. I may not make it the first time out though. It has been a long time since walking all the way. I am out of shape a bit. Getting back in shape will not be easy, and perhaps impossible. But I will try. Even going part way will be nice. It is always so quiet and beautiful back there along that trail. Well, thank you all for stopping by, have a fantastic Friday and God bless!

Steve and Muffin.

  1. Good Morning uncle Steve. It’s been some busy days. Hope my weekend keeps me free. Hope all is well. Take care, and stay cool during the heat wave and stay warm during the cool wave. Don’t disappoint Muffin. Watch your feet 😸. Have a Serene Friday ✨

    • Everything going good here, or somewhere, or anywhere! 😃😺🌛❄️❄️I am trying to stay cool, yes indeed. I brought some snow inside and an hour later it still hadn’t melted! 😂😹❄️Watch my feet? Is Muffin going to bite them again? 🤔No, Muffin, no, Simon said it, not me! Thanks for the sore foot Simon!! 😬😲😂😹😂😹

      • Ouch! Did she do that again 🐱🤣🤣. I’m sorry Muffin, I just reminded the old times 😜🤣🤣. Snow inside? Is it still not melted 😂 maybe you should heat it to use as a drinking water 😉. I have a question here. Do you store these snow and heat it to turn it into a water and drank it ? If yes, it tastes good? 🤔😉

      • I have melted snow and did drink it too. But you need to have good country snow, away from the pollution of towns/cities. 😃❄️❄️It just tastes like regular water once it is melted. Birds and other animals eat snow to get their water in the winter. 🤔😃❄️❄️Enjoy your new day Simon! 😁😻❄️❄️☕☕

      • Yeah ☺️ if I’m getting snow here, it’s definitely dangerous 🤣🤣 very polluted here. Glad your place is less polluted. Enjoy your sunday Uncle Steve ✨🤗

    • I’m not sure where it’s from, no name on them at all. I have a set of 4, got them at a garage sale years ago. The lady said they were bought by her mother while on a trip to Europe a long time back. Whatever that means. But they are nice, I love blue and white dishes. 😃☕☕

      • Check the bottom for the name of the pottery to see if they might be Delft Blue or Royal Delft.
We toured the Royal Delft factory when we were there several years ago, but could only afford hot pad. 🙂

      • There is no name at all. I am wondering if they came with saucers originally and the name would be on them. I have seen that with some English pottery. They don’t really look like the type of cup with a saucer though. Maybe one day I will look around online and see what I can find. Yep, it can be pricey stuff! 😁☕

  2. It’s hard to believe that it’s Saturday tomorrow. This week went by so fast and this was my “slower, less chaotic” week. It’s cold and icy here so I couldn’t leave the house. I slept a lot… slept for several hours during the daytime because I’m so cold.

    • Yep, another week gone already, it did go by way too fast. It warmed up here to -10C today, but that wind was so cold, terrible to be outside. Then it began snowing this afternoon. I was tired today so tried for a nap, but it didn’t work, just lay there. I really wanted to sleep too. Oh well. 🥱😲😺☕☕

      • Woo, -10C. Time to break out the t-shirts and shorts! 😂🤣

All week it’s been super cold and icy. I haven’t been to Tim’s at all this week because the sidewalks are covered with ice. It’s only November and I get the feeling that we are in for a very cold, long winter.

      • Do you really think so?? 🤔😃
I haven’t been out walking all week either. Just going to get my mail is treacherous enough. Yep, I agree, it is going to be a tough winter this year. 😲🥶❄️❄️

      • Total sarcasm. -10C is still too cold for me! Yes, I just pray that I don’t slip, fall and break my back I go to get the mail. The best way to combat that is to not get the mail and let it pile up lol 😆

      • Not a bad thought, but I get so much mail it would pile up rather quickly. 😂😹 Just a little humor there with that. I do get parcels though and can’t leave those outside for long. 🙄I wish the guy would clear the snow from the driveway a bit more often though, that would help a lot. ❄️❄️I need to pick up some sand next week too.
