Midweek Coffee Chat. #28

Good morning to everyone on this cold, blustery Wednesday! The temperature is not too bad at 16F (-9C), but it is very windy, and that wind is what makes it so cold! It is a good day for staying indoors and enjoying lots of hot coffee. So why not join me this morning with a cup of coffee as we look at our day. The poor birds are not enjoying things out there.

One way to tell is the fact they are not fighting over the food, they are just sitting quietly and eating. Too cold to waste energy on frivolous activities like fighting. Hmm, there might be a lesson in there somewhere. Anyway, I was out early, before the wind really got going, to feed the birds. The chickadees were just coming in as I was hanging up the feeders. Then I proceeded to clean the snow off the deck again.

This is the third morning in a row that I have shoveled 2 inches (5cm) of snow of my deck. That means 6 inches (15cm) of new snow this week so far. I am glad it is coming at only 2 inches at a time though. Much easier to deal with than getting it all at once. So that is actually something to be thankful for this week. This really is not a lot of snow, it can get worse, much worse. So far this winter we have had 17 inches (42.5cm) of snow, still not that much.

The birds are all fluffed out this morning, hiding their feet and legs under their feathers to keep them warm. I think it is time for another cup of coffee, how about you? There, that is better. I am sure that you agree. I was hoping to try walking to the river today. That was before I knew about the north wind this morning. It is blowing at 25 to 40 mph (about 40 to 60kph), which makes it a little too uncomfortable for walking. For me at least. There are some who might enjoy it.

I would go if the wind was not so strong since the temperature is not bad. It is going to get much colder very soon. But it is probably a good thing not to go today anyway. I am not quite over that fall on Monday. If I do not get down there soon, my little friend Scramble might not remember me. It has been a long time since I was last down to visit him. Much too long really. Oh well.

I need to do some dusting in here anyway. A day like this is a good time to do that sort of thing. So even a bad thing can be a good thing at times. The birds are back for more food already. They do eat more when it gets colder, they need that nourishment to keep them warm. I use coffee for the same effect. Muffin is sleeping on her blanket. She knows where the warmest places are in here. Well, I do hope you all have a wonderful Wednesday and God bless!
