For a smile as wide as a country sunrise
Good morning to everyone on this rather cold winter day. That air was just so cold to breathe in this morning. Kind of typical winter weather though, but not normally this early in December. We would expect this weather more towards the end of the month, like around Christmas. It was a nice -24F (-31C) this morning. And it is not going to warm up really today, not much anyway. We might even get a little snow.
Yesterday morning there was nearly 4 inches of new snow for us. So that meant more shoveling. Something I am not supposed to do. My physiotherapist asked me if I had a snow shovel. I said that I did. He said, “get rid of it.” Then he asked me if I had a broom to use outside. I said that I did. He said, “get rid of it.” Is there an echo in here? I am sure I just heard that. My other 2 physiotherapists went through this same dialogue with me.
So, then I knew there was an echo in that room. I mean, what else am I supposed to do? Ask the birds and squirrels to clear the snow of the deck and my stairs? Somehow I do not think that would work out too well. Oh well. Good thing winter is only 6 months long. Chickadees and nuthatches were here nice and early this morning, which is normal for them. The blue jays were late getting here, however. Probably froze to their branches. But they did arrive finally.
I have not seen any other birds yet. There is still a squirrel around, but it is not Jasper or Jasmine or Copper. It is a new squirrel, and it does not come over here very much. It will show up about once a week, that is all. I think the neighbor’s dog keeps the squirrels away now. Saves on peanuts anyway. Theodora, the wild turkey, is still around, but she does not come over here anymore either. She was chased by the dog at least twice and I guess she did not like that, so she stays away now too.
The evening grosbeaks were here for a few minutes yesterday, but they sure do not stay long. Usually only for about 5 minutes, then they take off and do not come back. Very strange. Oh well, every winter is different with the birds. It looks like this winter I will have fewer birds than normal. Last winter I had more birds than normal. When you go from a winter with a high number of birds to a winter with a low number of birds, it is a very noticeable thing.
Still, things could change yet. Just have to wait and see. Meanwhile, this is good weather to stay inside and drink coffee while I work on downsizing. Which will likely take me all winter at the rate I am working at it. But that is okay. I am in no particular hurry with this anyway. I hope you all have a wonderful day and God bless!

Umm the birds have reduced their counts? Have you noticed how many male birds were there? They must been bachelor’s. Maybe next year they’ll show up with their wife π. Now did u get rid of the shovel and broom? Follow the therapist advices. And stay safe no more shoveling pls… Have a good day Uncle Steve β¨π€

There are more males than females, that usually means a bad winter ahead. π₯ΆβοΈβοΈThe females will take the young and head further south to ensure their survival, while the males and some older females stay behind. Me? π€Would I keep my shovel after my physiotherapist told me to get rid of it? πYou should know me by now. Have a good night, I mean morning, Simon! ππβοΈβοΈββ

Amen to the nephew’s comment! Get rid of the broom and shovel!
I tried mowing just some leaves to mulch them into the grass before it got too cold here in Kentucky. But I had to divide the lawn into TWO DAYS work!! The kid I hire to usually mow it whips it out in about 45 minutes and does an excellent job, so next time I feel the urge to get out the mower, I’ll just pick up the phone and call my “landscaper!”
You may want to do the same. Both ‘boys’ I have used for my lawn care came from our church fellowship. So they were reliable and thorough. Good ‘kids.’

Well, without the broom and shovel I will be using my hands and feet to get rid of the snow. There are only little kids in our neighborhood, none that would shovel snow. There are two teen girls across the street, but they are not interested either, not after their first try at it. We did have a 10 inch snowfall that time, but there was 2 of them and there really is not much to do. I have tried reaching further out, but no luck so far. I could have gotten a girl from further away, but I would have to drive her, and I don’t have a car, so that didn’t get anywhere. Oh well, just take it slow and easy and pray I don’t get hurt. We have a small church and no younger people except our pastor and his family. God bless C. A.! ππΊβοΈβοΈπ₯Ά

Muffin does sleep a lot in winter, but that’s mainly because the windows are frosted up so she can’t see outside now. Have a good night Sharon! ππ»πββπ΄π΄
