For a smile as wide as a country sunrise
“There is an old friend here to see you Steve,” said Angel. “Hmm, I better hang around and see this woman,” said Sky. “How do you know it is a woman?” I asked her. “Your old friends are always women,” she replied. In came my visitor. “Chuck!” I said happily, “this is a quite a surprise, we have not seen each other since high school.” “Hey man,” he began, “yeah, it has been way too long Steve. My family and I are on vacation doing a quick tour of Europe. I knew you were here somewhere, but it took a bit to find you!”
“Hey Chuck, this is my wife, Sky,” I said, “the most wonderful woman around!” “Hi Chuck,” she said cheerfully, “so nice to meet one of Steve’s friends. I know you two probably want to be alone, so I will go get something to eat.” She was about to take Muffin with her but I told her to leave Muffin on the other bed. I do not think Muffin even woke up.
She had been playing with the kittens all morning, great way to get some exercise. Sky left, looked at Angel and Tracy, pointed, then kept on walking to the cafeteria. “Bring back some fries,” said Tracy. “Okay!” replied Sky. Chuck and I talked for about half an hour, just catching up on each other and some of our old friends. Chuck, who had always said he would stay a bachelor, was now married with 3 kids. He leaned over to show me pics of his family on his phone.
Sky was talking with Saranna in the cafeteria, mostly about me, she was trying to get straight answers from Saranna. Suddenly Muffin hit the alarm button on her collar and was sitting, staring at Chuck and growling. When that alarm sounded, Angel and Tracy were in the room amazing fast, guns out and pointing at Chuck. That is when I noticed what Muffin had seen. Sky was already running as fast as she could back to my room.
“Okay Chuck,” I said firmly, “hand your phone to Tracy, slow and easy. You move wrong and you are dead. On three Chuck. One, two…” He then handed his phone over to Tracy, who had her hand out. Sky came in at that moment, went past the girls, and in a quick succession of 3 hits, had Chuck on the floor groaning. Chopping with her hands is getting to be almost as good as her feet. Chung is a good teacher.
Tracy handed the phone to Sky who recognized it right away. She pushed a button on the side and out came a 4 inch razor sharp, two-edged blade. “Only those working for M carry those special phones,” I said to Chuck, “who do you work for?” “Figure it out man,” was all he said. “Put him in detention and call Rock,” I told the girls, “and if he does not cooperate, you know what to do.” Tracy and Angel then took him to our detention room on the far side of the hospital. Rock got the alarm and was on his way with John.
“You have some great friends in your past, Steve,” said Sky. “We had a nice high school,” I told her, “it attracted all kinds. Obviously our friend, the doctor, did work for, or with, M. And he must have hired Chuck to get at me. But how he managed to find Chuck so fast is hard to figure.” “Unless Chuck has been working for M all along,” she said, “then it would be easy for that doctor to find him.”
“Hmm, very good point,” I admitted, “thank you Muffin, you noticed that phone before I did, that was very good.” Meow,meow.=Me look at other phones lots, that way I can see easy if phones show up again. “Good for you Muffin,” said Sky, “we girls know how to do things.” Meow,meow.=Yep, that what me tell MC and Storm, they not think phones important anymore. “Okay then,” I said, “MC and Storm have some homework to do.” Both Sky and Muffin giggled.
Rock questioned Chuck but got nowhere with him, so we handed him over to the police charging him with attempted murder. That likely would not stick since he did not actually try anything, but it will keep him in jail for a while, and we need that time. I then had another meeting with Rock, John and Sky, we need to change our plan just a little to make things safer. During the meeting Sky got a phone call. All she managed to say was “hello”, then she frowned…

Who is Chuck ? Have we met him before ? That is some phone …kind of scary !😲😳 I wonder who was on the other end of Sky’s phone🤔 Good thing that Muffin was there with you !…interesting dialogue ! Be careful ! 🕵️♂️👩👩🦰👩🦰👩🦱😼😼😾

Chuck was an old high school friend, remember I said we had not seen each other since then. Amazing how people show up suddenly like that. Yes, who was Sky talking to, and why did she frown like that? That doesn’t sound good. Yes, that is why I wanted Muffin to stay, extra protection, though the girls were watching everything on a screen out in the hall. A new security feature we have. Trouble comes from so many different ways sometimes!🤔👩👩👩😾🕵️♂️

That was a close call!! I thought everyone was search thoroughly before gaining entry to your premises?🤔🤨 If Muffin noticed the phone, the others should have also!🙄 But what was that call all about? And I wonder how the plan will change?🤔🤔

Yes, people are searched, sort of, by our security scanner. It would just show an ordinary phone. A mistake on our part not thinking any more of these phones would be around. We will change that now. Yes, a strange phone call and on the same day as my strange visitor. Too much all at once. Maybe we will have to change our plan again. I hope not.🤔👩👩👩😾🕵️♂️

Well, they know where to find you! Perhaps it was a warning to forget about going back? But that would mean he has knowledge of your plan! And that means someone told him!🤨🤨🤨🫣 Oh boy…. not again???

Or perhaps there is someone else after me and it was not the doctor at all. I do have other enemies, such as Toledo who developed that force shield being used at the estate. He may have been working with M too. Or perhaps that “country” is trying to get me now. Too many possibilities to think about!😵💫👩😾🕵️♂️

But the doctor was able to lift the force shield so you could call Rock…🤔 but it could be that country too??🙄🙄🤔🤔

Toledo might have installed it there for M, then the doctor would know how to operate it. Maybe Toledo is hiding in that other country and that is why we can’t find him.🤔🕵️♂️

So it could all still be tied together?🤔 Or not…😒😒😒🤕🤕 my head hurts again after all of that supposing….😏

I know the feeling. It might be tied together, or it might not be. Maybe someone else is trying to kill me but maybe not. Maybe we need better security, but maybe there is nothing better. We just have to do the best we can and hope we are right.😲🕵️♂️

I didn’t write it yet, I did, but then I decided to change things, which is why I’m in the hospital which was not part of the original story. I maybe should have stayed with the original though, I kind of made it hard for myself. But it will work out. I have ideas.🤔🕵️♂️

Never wise to trust someone you have not seen for years. Good that Muffin was alert. You depend too much on electronic surveillance and not on old fashioned close personal observation. Wireless systems can always fail but we all have good instincts, if we pay attention. Chuck showed who he was quickly. Need to get more information so you can work as a team on an excellent plan. No more waiting for them to come to you and defending yourself but going on the offensive.

Yes, we will have to go back to using regular searches when people come to visit now, and phones will not be allowed anymore. We do not want people taking pictures inside our hospital either. Yes, we will be going on the offensive for sure once we get more information. And that will be coming along soon. Something still does not seem right, but I am not sure what it is. But trouble awaits.🤔👩😾😾😾🕵️♂️

There are definitely some things that are not right. How did Chuck know you were in the private hospital? It would not be general knowledge. Phones are not the only devices that record and take photos and videos. May have to consider people not in your circle as not welcome, unless they are invited.

Yes, his explanation for finding me was not good enough. We never give out info to people. But Toledo might have been behind that. Our hospital is not exactly hidden and he knew I was having problems. So that could have been it. Yep, we might have to consider closing the hospital to all outside visitors.🤔👩🕵️♂️
