Tuesday’s Tidbits. #9

Good morning everyone on this beautiful, sunny Tuesday! It is a bit chilly out there though. The temp was 5F (-15C) this morning, but it is warming up quickly. It is now 10F (-12C). Okay, maybe it is not that quick, but it is getting warmer anyway. A little. Yesterday the high was 28F (-2C), today should be 21F (-6C), but with a strong west wind. That is making it feel much colder than it is.

I was outside for a while taking pictures this morning. I nearly froze one finger. It is still sore after more than an hour. There was not much bird activity though, so I did not stay outside too long. It is busier out there now I see. Naturally. You probably noticed that Muffin’s post with her humor picks was a bit late yesterday. Actually, it was very late. I always do it up early and schedule it to come out at 3am.

But for some reason it did not publish at 3am like it was scheduled to do. First time that has happened. I will have to pay closer attention from now on to make sure they come out on time. Oh well. I think Muffin was ready to do some foot biting, she was certainly looking at my feet anyway. Sigh.

Well, I am back again. There were a lot of birds out there so I decided to try for some more pictures. But, by the time I got out there, the birds were mostly gone. A few remained, however, so I stayed out there. It was cold. That wind has gotten a lot stronger now and since it is a west wind, it blows straight across my deck and I have to sit facing that wind.

It was cold. Very cold. But I did get several nice pictures of the Red-breasted Nuthatches. And a few of Black-capped Chickadees. Plus a couple of female Pine Grosbeaks. I will try again at lunch time. But it is cold out there. Hard to stay outside for very long. I had a nuthatch and a chickadee land on me while I was out there. On my arm and my head. Needless to say, I did not get a picture of that. I think the nuthatch was wanting to check out my camera again.

I wonder what he would do if he saw another nuthatch through there. Probably would attack my camera. It is so cute watching them look at the screen. It is also fun having them walking around, or rather hopping, on me. Shows that they are trusting me. Now if I could just get one of those Boreal Chickadees to land on me. And get a picture of it too! That would be so fabulous.

Female Pine Grosbeak, these birds can really bend.

Muffin is enjoying her nap in the sunshine right now. I think she is quite happy to have her patch of sunshine back again. I see Muffin just turned over. Guess the other side was done. Today I have Pine Grosbeak pictures to share with you, they are from the last couple of days. I hope you have a very wonderful Tuesday and God bless!

  1. The pine grosbeak with its wings fluttering is amazing. Your dedication to getting all those fabulous photos is amazing. Sure hope your finger was not frostbitten. It is a little cold here in the Far North -11 F (-18 C), right now. Yesterday was -25 F (-31 C) although it will be -21 F (-29 C) later today. No wind, which is good. Enjoy your day!.
