Good morning once again to everyone! Time to grab a cup of coffee and relax for a few minutes. It is a milder morning with a temperature of 25F (-4C). Kind of nice compared to the cold mornings we have had lately. It is cloudy again but we may get to see the sun off and on today. I must admit, as we go through the month of March I really begin to look for spring. And look. And look. And not see much change.

It used to be that our gulls would return between March 15 to 17 every year. Not anymore. It is usually April before they return now. Just showing once more that our winters have gotten longer over the years. Many of our summer birds would arrive in March actually. Not anymore. Though it does still happen on occasion that one or two species will show up at the end of March.

We really do not get much spring weather anymore. April is more winter-like than spring-like now, with snow usually staying around until the end of the month. So far this month our temperatures have been below normal by quite a bit, about 15 degrees Fahrenheit, or 8 degrees Celsius, colder than normal. That is a lot really. But apparently that should change soon. That would certainly be nice.

I would like to get out walking again. It is just too icy these days for safe walking. So, I have been staying home, sitting on the deck and enjoying my birds. And trying to get some different pics of them, as you can see by todays photos. I have been trying to get their wings spread out in different ways, and hopefully in focus too.

Getting them focused is the hardest part and I am having some difficulty with that. But my pics have been improving, so now you get to see some of them. I think it looks cool to see them with their wings spread in different ways. I am still trying to get the nuthatch with wings spread, but they seem extra difficult to get.

Baxter and his new mate have been here since 7:30am. Some of the other blue jays have been as well, but just come and go. I was going to call his new mate ‘Betty’ as well, but I think maybe a new name is best. So I am going to call her Bridgette, after one of the characters in my story. Thank you to those who submitted names for my birds.

The third Boreal chickadee is now Chloe and the third nuthatch is now Norah. They were the only female names submitted, thank you Rossana! The male name has not yet been decided, Muffin did not want to cooperate this morning, so I will try again later.   2. We experienced a heavy frost this morning. The poor daffodils looked stunned. Steve, I enjoyed your chickadee photos. It’s amazing that they’ll eat right from your human bird feeder.

      Thanks so much Richard! Yes, once they find my hand with food and realize it is safe, then they become very comfortable and fearless coming to my hand.😊😺📷✋🐦

  3. Chloe Norah nice names uncle Steve. You have a very good taste on name’s. The climate change is shocking 👀🤔 well if April is almost white? Then when the actual spring begins, a climate change is good for us, this year I predict is going to be so so so warm… 🥵 No comments. Go out for a small walk and be careful ofcourse, be slow no hurry. Take Rosanna with you she might guide you isn’t it Muffin? 😅. Have a good day ❤️🤗

    • Well, I didn’t come up with the names, Rossana, one of my readers suggested the names and I liked them.😃 They fit the birds nicely too. Much too icy now for even a short walk.😱🙀 Even the driveway here that I use for walking is just solid ice right now. Too dangerous. So, inside exercising only for now. And waiting for spring so I can walk outside again! Enjoy your day Simon!😊😻☕☕🌞

      • Yes, you have mentioned about that 😉 got nice taste to choose from the suggestions, and agreed, they fit the birds nicely. inside excercising is safe , good uncle Steve. wait for until snow disappears.       • Yep, that ice is getting worse each day out there!😱 It takes a long time walking out to my mailbox!🙄 Better slow than sore is my motto!😃🙄 Yes, a fast spring would be very nice indeed, but it was sure a cold one again today!🥶🙀📷🐦☕☕

  6. Love the birds eating out of you hand with their wings spread different ways. Your temperatures sound warm to me as it is in the negatives F and predicted to go to minus 30 F. At least we are getting more daylight and the Spring equinox is fast approaching. Then we get to head towards the midnight sun and daylight 24 hours!
