For a smile as wide as a country sunrise
Good morning everyone! Happy Friday! It is cloudy, wet, windy and definitely a bit chilly today. That strong wind with rain and cool temperatures can really penetrate right down to the bones, making it rather uncomfortable outside. So, it is a good day to be inside, with some nice hot coffee! Plus, it is a great day to be inside working on a DIY project.
There are so many things a person can do that are really quite simple and yet they can make a big difference around the house. Or they can just be a nice hobby and can be used to make some nice gifts for people. I should have started this at the beginning of winter instead of at the end of winter. In summer I spend a lot of my time outside if possible. But we will see how things work out.
Today is a simple project. In the above photo is a stack of Rubbermaid totes sitting in a corner of my living room. There is not much storage space in this apartment and these totes are used to pack stuff when I move, which I tend to do a lot. So, I like to keep them. I have a lot more than what is shown, but these are in the open.
So, I decided to cover them up and give Muffin a place to sleep beside her favorite window as well. I started with cutting a piece of plywood to the right size to cover the top of the totes, shown in above photo.
Then I took a couple pieces of old towels, that were going to be used for rags, making a somewhat softer top on the plywood, shown in the above photo.
Then I covered that with a couple layers from a soft microfiber blanket in my favorite blue and white color. Most of you likely know by now that blue is my favorite color, has been since I was a kid. Anyway, that is shown in the above photo.
Then I stapled that in place all around the piece of plywood, shown in the above photo.
Then I took some blue fabric and tacked it all around the top, overlapping the fabric about every 3 inches (7.5cm), using upholstery tacks to make it look a little nicer. This is shown in the above photo. Do not look too close at that part however. Then I put it on top of my stack of totes to hide them and make things look a little nicer.
Muffin loves the new bed by the window. Well, not really so new, this is something I did a couple of years ago. Oh well, it does look better than staring at a stack of plastic totes anyway. I hope you liked our little project today and next week we might look at using antiques in a bright new way around the house. Have a wonderful weekend everyone and God bless!
