The Investigators, Inc. The Case of Baldwin’s Murder. Chapter 11. Major Gone.

The Major and his men left us and went back home to Italy, all except Frank, he stayed behind to continue helping us. And it looks like he will stay with us too. He already talked it over with me and the Major and he got the okay from Victor to leave the organization and join us. Frank will be a big help to us in many different ways.

There is a young lady on our team that had a big influence on Frank and his decision to change sides. Now if we could just get Major to do the same. Perhaps one of these days. As we were flying across to New Zealand I asked Annelie how we would get into the safe house without being seen or heard. As I recalled, these places only have one way in and out and they would be able to see us coming before we even got to the entrance.

“No problem Steve,” she said, “there is always a secret entrance to these safe houses too, beside the main entrance. They likely do not even know about it and there are no cameras or anything else protecting that entrance. I know it seems crazy, but no one would ever likely find it if they did not know where to look and what to look for as well.”

“Sounds interesting,” I said, “will I find out how to get in this secret entrance, or will you keep me guessing?” “Hmm, just for that,” she said, “I should make you guess. Except it would take too long since you would never guess it.” “Thanks so much for the vote of confidence on my abilities,” I said to her, “now, if you could tell me, that would be very nice.”

Sky just giggled. Sometimes I think they do this deliberately to me. Meow,meow.=My human not good at guessing games. She was talking to the kittens. Meowi=Oh, that why human Sky have to tell him he in love with her so they get married. Meowy.=Oh, yep, or they still not be married yet. Sky giggled again. “I heard that you three,” I said, “Sky did not have to tell me.”

“True,” said Sky, “I just had to hint very strongly.” Now the cats started to giggle. Still wish I knew how they learned how to do that. No, wait, I do not want to know. Sometimes it is better not to know things. Storm should be in here, I need someone on my side and he is the only male cat. Sigh. Just then Mac knocked on the door of our room.

“Got some bad news,” he said to me, “the Major and the 3 men with him were gunned down at the airport. Seems a war has erupted between Victor’s organization and another organization in Spain. Guess they figured getting Major out of the way would weaken Victor a lot.” “What do you think about that Mac?” I asked. “They are right,” he said, “Victor relied a lot on the Major, without him Victor is vulnerable.”

“Yeah, I figured that,” I said, “it is going to be hard on Aasta when she hears the news.” “I will go and tell her,” said Sky. “Okay, take Muffin and Galyna with you and use the other bedroom.” “Okay, come little Muffin,” she said, “get that purr warmed up, Aasta is going to need it.” Meow,meow.=Yep, me ready to give best purr for human Aasta.

“Actually, take the kittens too,” I said, “they need the practice as well.” Tiia and Snow jumped when they heard me say that and they followed quickly out the door behind Muffin. Mac was about to leave, then he hesitated at the door. “Close the door Mac,” I said, “so we can talk.” He did so. “I know you want to go and get those guys that took down the Major,” I said, “but we need you here right now.

Then after this you and I will go after their boss. Do we have a pic of him Annelie?” “No, seems he does not like having his picture taken,” she said, “even the police do not have a good photo of him.” “You always connected to Annelie?” asked Mac. “Most of the time these days,” I said, “especially when we are on a case, it saves time.”

“True,” said Annelie, “it does make a difference. I will keep checking for a photo of him since we have some time yet.” “Victor may have a photo,” said Mac, “want me to check with him?” “Sure, good idea,” I said, “and ask when the funeral will be for Major.” “Will do,” said Mac and out the door he went. My back was bothering me again so Kat was giving me a massage since Sigurbjorn is not here.

I hope her and the rest of the girls recover fully from that drug they were given, but Li Jing said it could take some time. Therefore our team will be much smaller for a while. Annelie told me how to get into the safe house, it is quite the maze, no wonder no cameras or security are needed, except right at the very end. But if they are not specifically watching…
