The Investigators, Inc. The Case of the Widow’s Mansion. Chapter 9. Freeing Tanya.

I just could not sleep, just kept thinking about our case and the oddities of it. “Are you not asleep yet?” asked Kat. “No, thinking too much,” I said, “something does not quite add up with this case.” “Such as?” she asked again. “Well, Annelie called and said that Tanya has been in that private ‘hospital’ for a year now,” I said, “so that means that husband John, the real one, must have put her there since he was her closest living relative.

But why did he do it? And who is paying for it? The cost is $5,000 per month, but John and Jackie do not have that kind of money. Plus, that kind of eats into the value of the treasure, whatever it is.” “Hmm, that is a good point,” she said, “and if it is true that he was never interested in anything but this mansion, then why put his sister away? Do you suppose that Kenaston put up the money?”

“That is possible,” I admitted, “yet he does not seem like the type to part with his money so freely without a good reason.” “Perhaps she knew something that one, or all, of them did not want being made public,” said Kat. “Yes, that is also possible,” I said, “then it must be something about Kenaston, yet Annelie was not able to find anything much that could be held against Kenaston.”

“Something that is quite remarkable,” she said, “do you not agree?” “Hmm, that is true,” I said, “and the only thing that made me wonder if he was a good choice for Baldwin Corporation. But what could he be hiding and how could he hide it so well?” “Hmm, and being in the care of those ‘doctors’, Tanya might not have much of a memory left,” said Kat, “so we might never find out for sure.”

A little more talking, then it was time to sleep. The night passed quietly, as did breakfast, then we were back to following clues to find that treasure. Meanwhile, Sky and her team were arriving at the hospital where Tanya was being held. They went to our lawyer first and he had everything ready for her and accompanied the team to the hospital.

They went directly to the administrator and Sky demanded to see Tanya. “I am her only living relative,” she said, “so I have every right to see her and take her home if I desire to do so. I have all the necessary legal paperwork done, so you cannot prevent me from doing this.” The administrator had his lawyer there too and he was going over the paperwork while Sky was talking.

The administrator, Dr. Paul Wesley, was trying to reason with Sky about leaving Tanya in their care since she was completely out of her mind and was quite violent at times. Sky had brought Saranna, our doctor, along as well. Saranna said she could easily look after Tanya at her clinic, they have all that is necessary to do so, including a locked section and a psychiatrist, which would be Galyna although she is not actually a psychiatrist, just our counselor.

There was some arguing going on and Sky was getting very impatient. Finally the hospital lawyer acknowledged that they did have the right to see Tanya and take her out of the hospital to their own clinic if they wanted to do so. Dr. Wesley did not seem too pleased with that news and actually became quite nervous, but he took Sky, her husband Benson and Saranna down to see Tanya.

Once out of sight down the hall, two very large men, dressed in white, appeared and joined them to the room where Tanya was kept. There was a third man at the door of the room, an armed guard. “Why do you need 3 guards with us?” asked Sky. “Just a precaution,” he said, “I told you she gets violent.”

Aari was getting this information through his earphones and told John and Frank, so they proceeded to go through the doors into the hall, but the nurse at a desk pushed a button and locked the doors. “You are not allowed to go down there,” she said coldly. Aasta went over to her, having seen which button it was, and pushed it again.

The nurse tried to stop her but Aasta slapped her, hard. John and Frank went down the hall. The others had not yet gone into the room where Tanya was kept. The two large men in white spotted John and Mac and stopped them, or tried to anyway. There was a brief scuffle and the two hospital employees lay on the floor.

“A bad mistake for you doctor,” said Sky, “now, unlock this door.” “I did not bring the keys with me,” he said angrily, “and you have no right to be violent in here, so you cannot have Tanya.” That was too much for Sky and she told Frank to unlock the door, but the guard pulled his gun. Sky quickly subdued him and Frank had the door open, so they went inside the room, got Tanya into a wheelchair and started to leave, with the doctor protesting all the way.
