For a smile as wide as a country sunrise
Good morning everyone! It is a lovely, sunny morning, although there are clouds around too, and some smoke again. The smoke is not as bad today though, which is nice. Sir George and Lady Pearl were here earlier this morning, and Sir Henry was just here a few minutes ago. Jasper has been here since before 6am, off and on.
The chipmunks have been coming also, always looking for their peanuts. They have been having some fun with Mica, helping me to teach him that leaving the chipmunks alone is the best thing to do. He is not learning that one too quickly however. Here are some of the funny things that have been happening. The other day Mica was chasing Pocket and they were heading straight for the post that held my bird feeder.

My old friend Rusty on a late summer evening, he no longer comes.
At the last moment Pocket moved to the side, missing the post, but Mica was watching Pocket, not anything else and he was not able to move fast enough, so smack! He ran into the post and sat there for a bit shaking his head. Pocket was already back filling up with peanuts and then he left before Mica spotted him again.
Another time Mica is chasing GPS and they were heading to the edge of the deck. I figured GPS was going to jump, but at the last moment he turned to the side. Poor Mica could not stop in time and over the edge he went, right into the raspberry patch! He came back up, scratching himself. Meanwhile GPS had filled up with peanuts and left.

Rusty again. When they sit with their back to you, it means they trust you completely.
Another time Mica is chasing Coffee and he went around one of the containers of flowers, but only Mica came out from behind the flowers. He stopped and looked around. He even stood up on his hind legs to look over the area, but no Coffee anywhere. He went back behind the flowers, that is when I noticed that Coffee was in the box filling up with peanuts. I am not quite sure how he did that, but he did it.

This is Sylvester, another old friend on an early morning visit, he no longer comes.
He then ran off, but Mica saw him and ran after him, down the stairs. But while that happened, Skamper came up the stairs and over to the peanuts. Up pops Mica’s head at the top of the stairs. He lost Coffee again, but spotted Skamper, the chase was on! Pocket came along and joined the chase, but behind Mica. Then GPS joined in too.
Around the containers of flowers they went and I am sure none of them knew who they were chasing, even Mica got confused and kept changing who he was chasing. One by one the chipmunks left the chase and filled up with peanuts and left. Finally Mica was alone running around the flowers. He did stop finally and came to get a peanut, but they were all gone.

This one is Chester, he has not been around since the end of May.
I told Mica it does not pay to chase the chipmunks. He decided to lie down beside me and rest. Then I gave him a peanut and he ran off with it. Jasper was like that at one time too, but he learned. Perhaps Mica will learn too. I hope you all have a great day and God bless!

Nice! I wonder, did you get to interact with any foxes? π€

When I lived in the country I used to feed foxes, they got to be quite friendly after a while. There was a pair of them. Even here I had one that would come up on the deck looking for handouts sometimes, but not regularly. They are beautiful animals.ππΈπ¦

That’s nice! The reason why I ask is because I saw some videos with them and they looked so happy and cuddly, I was truly amazed by how nice they are. Tbh, in our community we’d always get crazy when one appeared because it would steal chickens π.
Thanks! πΊ

Yes, they are friendly and beautiful, but if a person has chickens around they don’t want foxes around! You’re welcome!ππΈ
