The Investigators, Inc. The Hometown Mystery. Chapter 13. Steve Dies.

It was early in the morning, Sky was sleeping and Kat was watching over me with Muffin. Then Kat saw something she did not like and she hit the emergency button, then woke up Sky. The doctor and nurse were there quickly, but it was too late to do anything. The doctor just shook his head and told Sky he was very sorry. Then a second nurse came in.

Muffin looked at her and growled. Kat also felt there was something wrong with that nurse and told her to leave now or she would throw her out. The nurse left quickly and went to make a phone call. “Thank you for that information Linda,” said the boss, “you have made my day.”

Kat was watching as Linda made the phone call and as Linda was about to put her phone back into her pocket, Kat was right there and took it from her. “Hey! That is my phone!” yelled Linda. Kat just gave her a backhanded slap knocking her to the floor. Crystal and Tracy came running over and began to question Linda but she said nothing.

So they took her away to Mandar, along with her phone. Mandar checked the phone to see who she called. “Well, well, young lady,” he said, “you really should be more careful with your phone. But thank you for such valuable information.” She got up off the chair to attack Mandar but Tracy kicked her and she sat down again very fast.

“You will find that cooperation works much better than fighting,” said Mandar, “you are in a great deal of trouble right now.” Mandar then called Aari with the news. Aari just stood speechless when Mandar told him. Then he got his team together and told them. Rock stood up and smashed the desk he was sitting at, breaking it in half.

The whole team then returned to our home base back in the UK, then back to that little cemetery in France where others from our team were buried. They buried me beside Kat which is what Sky wanted. During this time, about 3 weeks, Morgan had taken over the casino in my hometown and his boss allowed him to get Drake and Chuck out of jail.

Chief Darryl let him go due to lack of decisive evidence over the killing of Mike. Apparently there were no clear finger prints on the gun. Drake had been wearing gloves and had put the gloves behind the bar before the police came in. Things were going well in the casino, but especially so in the drug market. One evening as Morgan and Drake were in the office, Chuck came in with the boss.

“Well, this is a pleasant surprise!” said Morgan, “Welcome to our little part of the world Scorpion.” “You seem to have things under control,” he said, “now comes the next part. I want all the drug trade here in town and surrounding areas, so start undercutting everyone, by quite a bit.” “We just got a new shipment in today Scorpion,” said Morgan, “top grade stuff too.”

“Good, keep it that way, and cut the price until we have everything,” said Scorpion, “then we jump the price.” They all laughed. That is about the time that Kat came walking into the casino with Rusty and Storm. “Hey lady,” said one of the doormen, “no animals allowed in here.” “Then how did you get in?” she asked and kept walking. The guy was clearly upset by that comment and came over, grabbing her arm.

“Let go of me,” she said calmly, “or die.” He let go and called Drake. Drake came out with a couple of men and walked toward Kat. “You killed my husband!” said Kat loudly. That startled Drake for a moment and he stopped. People moved away from Kat. “Now you will die,” she said, pointing at him. Drake fell to the floor, dead.

Scorpion and Morgan had come out just before Kat said that and saw what happened. “Scorpion!” called out Kat, “you gave the order to change my husband’s medication so he would die. Your friend Linda told me so, and I have proof of that now too.” “You are not his wife,” said Chuck, “I have seen his wife.” “I was his wife,” she said, “until Toledo killed me 18 months ago. Now Steve is buried beside me, and all of you had a part in it, and all of you will die.”

Chuck took out his gun and tried to shoot Kat, but was unable to do so. “You cannot kill a ghost, mister,” she said, “I am already dead.” People were now running for the door and the casino was soon empty, except for the employees. “Now Scorpion,” she said, “how brave are you?” “Get her!” he yelled to everyone. But as they began to run towards her there was a big boom and Rock came walking in.

Then the whole team came in, weapons ready. “Fight!” yelled Scorpion. “First you die,” said Kat and since she was within striking distance, she kicked him in the stomach, then in the head. Scorpion fell to the floor, dead. No one else tried to fight. At that moment Sky came in, along with me.

Morgan could not believe it, he had followed us to the cemetery and had checked to make sure I was in that casket and watched that place for 2 days to make sure I was dead. Perhaps I was. I had no memory…
