For a smile as wide as a country sunrise
Happy Monday everyone! Well, it helps to hit “publish” once the post is ready to go. Without doing that, well, it just kind of sits there and does not go anywhere. Sigh. A little detail that I must remember. Anyway, as we move right along, we shall continue the story from Saturday, um, which should have been published yesterday, but someone forgot to publish it, um, and so, here it is today. Sigh.
We left off our little winter adventure with me trying to retrace my footsteps after discovering the ice was just a little too thin to support me. Amazing that I was able to get that far without falling through in the first place. I had tossed my backpack behind me as far as it would go. Then I took one step backward. That is when the ice gave way and I went down into that frigid water!

But I remembered to do something, and that was to throw myself backward which caused me to land on my back onto ice that was nice and solid. However, my feet and legs, up to my knees ended up in that icy water! I pulled them out of the water quickly, but not quick enough and they were thoroughly soaked from feet to knees.
Krissy had been watching with horror as I went through the ice, but fortunately she was back far enough to be safe. I grabbed my backpack and walked quickly back to shore where Krissy was standing waiting for me. She gave me a big hug, being so happy that I did not go completely into the water. On my way back to shore I saw something in among the trees that looked like a cabin.

We quickly ran to the cabin which was an old log cabin. The windows had no glass in them, but the door was still somewhat attached. The roof was mostly in good shape except for a rather large hole in one corner. There was an old table, two chairs (though one was broken), an old metal bed frame with a slightly no good mattress on it still.
Fortunately I had learned by then to always bring extra clothes with me. So, once inside the cabin I changed out of my wet, and somewhat stiff clothes and got some dry clothes on. I even brought some shoes along. Though not winter boots, they still felt better than those wet boots.

While I was changing Krissy was looking around and found some old pop bottles dating back to the 1920s. I looked under the bed and found a few more, slightly newer ones from the 1930s and 40s. We decided to eat our lunch in the cabin and we had 3 thermoses of coffee as well.
It was sure nice to have that hot coffee after my cold dip in the lake. Then it was time to head back to the car and home again. Well, I do hope you enjoyed this little misadventure! Have a great Monday and God bless!

Yes, I am happy I did not get totally wet! Though at least I had dry clothes to put on.
