For a smile as wide as a country sunrise
Hello everyone! Wow, we are back to Saturday already, the week has gone by so fast! It is mostly cloudy again today and if the forecast is correct, we will only see the sun once all next week. And it will be colder again too. Yesterday it was raining for a while, then it froze, so I imagine it is icy out there again today. I am planning to stay inside anyway.
I have a few things that need to get done inside. Well, guess I should get back to our story from last week and get it finished today. If you missed last week you can find it by clicking Story. Then click the link in the little box that should show up. Sigh.

Male Common Merganser.
Krissy and I were out for a nice spring hike, it was a very warm, sunny day and we had to cross a creek by walking over a fallen tree. We almost made it too, but near the end Krissy slipped, and since she was holding onto my backpack we both ended up falling into that very icy cold water. We got out of it very quickly though.
And I have learned to always bring extra clothes along, which we both did. And towels, which came in very handy since we were very wet, except our heads. There was a nice, sunny spot not far away and we headed there to get dry and change our clothes. It was certainly nice getting out of those cold, water soaked clothes and get warmed up again in that sunshine.

Female Mallard duck.
It was a small hillside with no trees and it faced the sun perfectly. From the hill we could actually see quite a long distance in one direction. It was very beautiful, with at least 2 lakes in the distance, one was not far away so we decided to hike down to it. The hike was quite easy and all downhill, though that would mean an uphill climb when we return. It was noon when we arrived at the lake.
The shoreline was mostly rock but there was a small sandy beach as well. “Hey, the water is quite nice!” she said. “No!” I responded. “What happened to your sense of adventure?” she asked. “We already got wet in icy cold water,” I reminded her. “This is not as cold,” she insisted. “Checking with your toes does not count,” I said, “3 feet from shore and it will feel icy cold.”

Common Loon.
We ate our lunch by the lake sitting on the nice granite rock along the shore. Then we headed along the shore to where that creek emptied into this lake to see if we could cross more easily. “We could wade out into the water here,” she said, “it does not look deep.” She pulled her jeans up to her knees and waded out into the water.
She came back quickly enough though. “A bit cold,” she said. I just smiled. “Well, we could jump, it is not far across here,” she said. She put her shoes back on, ran and jumped across quite easily. I just looked. Krissy was very good at things like that. I was not. She could run faster than me. And jump much better than me.

Rocky shoreline.
She won medals in high school for both categories. She was 17 at this time, ten years younger than me. Krissy said she would try to catch me on that side. I did not want to hear the word TRY. I wanted to hear, “I will catch you”. Sigh. I ran and jumped…
Well, I should stop for today and let you get back to doing other things. I will continue our story next time. Thank you for stopping by, enjoy your weekend and God bless!

Somehow, I know how this story end. You did not make it across without landing in that extremely cold water. No dry clothes and a long walk to the car. Sigh!
