For a smile as wide as a country sunrise
Hello everyone and welcome back! Time to grab a cup of coffee and relax for a few minutes. It is a bit cooler this morning with cloudy skies and a bit of light rain now and then, so it is quite damp feeling outside. That makes it feel a bit chillier than it would otherwise.
Muffin was sure energetic this morning, wanting to play for more than an hour, with just a couple of short breaks to rest a bit. It was nice to see her with all that energy again. I think she is really worn out now and napping on her favorite chair. All of our gulls seem to be back now. On Sunday, and yesterday, I watched them sitting out on the ice, mostly in pairs.

Sir George, the Herring Gull, on my old bird feeder.
It is quite amazing to see them out there with their webbed feet on that cold ice, and it does not bother them at all. Just like standing on nice grass for them. I do not think I would like to try it though. Bad idea completely. On Sunday I also saw my first American Robin. I love to see them back again and there was one around our building yesterday too that was singing so nicely.

The first American Robin of spring is always such a joy to see.
I could not see it anywhere, but the song was so clear and beautiful. I love listening to robins sing. Purple finches often stay here year round, but they do head south some winters, or just a few scattered individuals will stay. Other winters we get large flocks of them staying the winter. Finches are an odd group of birds and can be quite unpredictable in their patterns.
Other birds will soon be returning as well, like Juncos. They are probably already here, they often return while snow is still on the ground, and there is no snow now. No one is feeding birds in this area so that makes it harder to see the returning migrants. And my walks are kind of short these days so I am not seeing much.

Northern (Slate-colored) Junco.
I have begun my spring cleaning, a little later than usual, but I’m probably getting things done just as quickly. I still have one of my three closets to clean out, but this one should not take as long as the last two did. Amazing how much stuff I had in those closets.
Now everything is neatly organized too. Not sure how long they will stay organized though, but I am going to try and keep them that way. Wow, this morning has sure disappeared quickly, it is almost time for lunch. Thank you for stopping by for coffee, have a great day and God bless!
Steve and Muffin.

Awesome that a robin shared a greeting. My first sighting was about three weeks ago, which seemed a bit on the early side. But then, we’ve experienced some nasty thunderstorms in recent weeks, some with tornadoes. Quite out of character for central Ohio. Steve, thank you for sharing some of your cache of photos.

This was a bit early for robins here too, but we did get a nice early spring this year, our earliest spring since 2011. Glad you enjoyed the photos Richard! Have a great week!😊😺☕☕

I don’t spring clean until the tree pollen dies down

That is a good plan for sure. Here the tree pollen doesn’t stop until mid June. Usually I like to do spring cleaning in March before the nice weather arrives and I want to be outside more. Have a great day!😊😺☕☕

Our bird feeders have been super busy with cardinals, blue jays and various other birds. We started spring cleaning last week now that the pollen has died down. Today, we emptied a closet, cleaned it and repainted it. Now on to the next task. Sigh. 😻☕☕🧹

Pollen here doesn’t stop until mid June, but I usually spring clean in March so I’m a bit late this year. I like to get it done before the nice weather arrives and I want to be outside more. I have done all 3 of my closets now. Time to clean behind the furniture.😊😺☕☕
