For a smile as wide as a country sunrise
Hello everyone and Happy Sunday! Here we are with another mushroom for us to look at today. This one is called Frost’s Amanita (amanita frostiana). It is actually a beautiful looking mushroom with it’s bright orange/yellow coloring. It is not particularly common but can be found throughout northeastern N. America. As with other Amanita mushrooms, this one is TOXIC and should NOT be eaten at all.

Frost’s Amanita.
The mature cap can be up to 3 inches (7.5 cm) wide and the stem can be up to 4 inches (10cm) tall. The cap is usually dotted with small cotton like patches, which do fall of easily. The edges of the cap have very noticeable ribbing. As with all Amanita species, this one starts out being completely covered with a veil, a thin membrane that covers the mushroom as it begins to grow.

Young Frost’s Amanita.
This membrane makes the developing mushroom resemble an egg. This membrane breaks apart quickly once the mushroom has completely come out of the ground. This leaves a thin ring around the stem and patches on the cap of the mushroom. All Amanita species are toxic and should be avoided. Well, I hope you all have a wonderful week ahead and God bless!
