For a smile as wide as a country sunrise

Hello everyone! Welcome back to our Magnificent Mushrooms post! It has been a couple of weeks since our last mushroom post. Today we have the Ivory Waxy Cap mushroom. It is basically a pure white mushroom that is somewhat translucent, so light shines through it quite nicely. It can be hard to tell the difference between the 3 main wax cap mushrooms we have in this area.

This one can grow about 3 to 4 inches (7.5 to 10cm) tall and the cap can be up to 3 inches (7.5cm) wide. This one can be slimy, especially if it is wet. The only time I have encountered these was in an area of White Pines, close to our river. There were a number of them scattered over quite a large area, growing among the decaying pine needles.
They are considered edible, but have no flavor, and they can be easily confused with species that are toxic, so it is best to leave them alone. They grow from August to October in our area and seem to really like a wetter and cooler fall. Have a wonderful day everyone and God bless!
Steve and Muffin.
