The Investigators, Inc. The Museum Case. Chapter 11. Recovering.

Here we are, the day after the fight between Karl and our ghosts. It was definitely a hot night sleeping under those electric blankets. However, about half way through the night we were able to lower the heat setting on the blankets since each of our ghosts was finally registering some amount of strength, albeit just a small amount.

Carine was able to show Jennifer how to use the laser, that way they could take turns. I was lying next to Sky again, Amerie had taken my place for part of the night, but I was back beside Sky now. “Perhaps you should try kissing Sky,” said Carine, “maybe it will awaken the sleeping beauty.” She was smiling when she said it. “That’s very funny,” I answered.

“Actually, I was very serious,” she said, “a kiss always seems to awaken you when you have been hurt.” I looked at Sky and thought, “why not?” So, I gave her a kiss. “Oh my,” said Jennifer as she entered the room, “you can’t leave Sky alone even when she’s hurt.” “Um, wait a minute,” I said, “I was just obeying orders.” Sky giggled at this point. I looked at her and she had her eyes wide open this time.

“Good morning Steve,” she said, “thank you for the kiss.” “Well, look at that,” said Jennifer, “you are actually blushing Steve!” “Yeah, well, um, yeah,” I said, “anyway, how do you feel this morning Sky?” “I’m still very weak,” she replied, “but I will be okay soon.” “You didn’t even look over this way yet, Steve,” said Carine. I looked and Kat was sitting up in bed, propped up with pillows, and smiling at me.

Angel was also awake, but lying down, she was still too weak, like Sky, to sit up just yet. I went over and gave each of them a kiss too. “Do you think it’s possible to make more of those bracelets like Sky is wearing?” I asked Kat. “If I had all the parts I need, then I’m sure I could do it,” she answered. “I will make sure you get all the parts,” I said, “you just give me a list once you are feeling better.”

I then went and cleaned up, and when I came out the girls had brought breakfast to our room, plus lots of coffee. The cats were overjoyed with having pancakes and bacon for breakfast, the rest of us enjoyed it too. We had been moved to a different room so we would not have to look at all the mess. Plus, our old room no longer had a door anyway.

While eating my breakfast Amerie came and knelt down on the floor beside me. “I can see you are happy to know our ghosts are okay big brother,” she said, “but I also see that something is still bothering you. Would you like to share with your younger sister? Maybe all I can do is listen, but maybe too I can help. Jennifer also sees, but she must concentrate her efforts on the others right now. You will share?”

I looked over at Amerie and smiled. “You are a remarkable woman Amerie,” I said to her, “right from the first day we met you have been able to see things about me that others do not.” “That is because you are mine,” she said smiling, “in our little group whoever found something of value, it belonged to that person. So, I find you, so you belong to me, that is why I see things about you.” She giggled when she said that.

“I have been wondering who it is that backed Karl,” I said, “someone must have done it, and perhaps that person has more ghosts like Karl waiting to be unleashed. Perhaps I shouldn’t think negatively like that, but the possibility exists, and we need to have a better plan than this time. I think that someone with a lot of money was behind Karl, and that could be a very big problem.”

“Yes, I see,” she said, “and our ghosts need time to recover sufficiently, and it would be good if we could also fight. Perhaps with a very big bomb?” “Yes, I thought about such a possible bomb to attack with,” I said, “but how big would it need to be?” “Yes, perhaps so big it would be a very big problem to use it,” she admitted, “now, you also need to rest too big brother.

So, after breakfast you will go to bed and sleep for a while. If you don’t, then I will put you in bed myself and lie down on top of you to make sure you stay there.” Jennifer then came over and sat with us. “And what are you two talking about?” she asked. “Well, Amerie noticed that you and I are tired and should get to bed after breakfast and sleep for a while,” I replied.

“Surely you don’t expect me to believe that,” she said, “although it is a good idea. I don’t think there are any other ghosts like Karl around, otherwise whoever was backing Karl would have destroyed us by now.” After sleeping most of the morning, I took some of the team down to the museum to visit with the remaining directors.

The national treasures we recovered will be turned over to the government, not to this museum, and I wanted to let the directors know that so I could see their reaction. However, when we arrived, the police were there investigating the deaths of two more directors. The remaining directors seem to have vanished without a trace.

I checked with Aari but he said no one had gone out or come in through either of the entrances they had found. So that means they used the main museum doors. The police checked the security cameras, but nothing had happened outside. I explained that we intercepted the video cameras and we would have the footage on our computers, so I would get it to them.

Strangely though, nothing showed up on the footage we had either. I wasn’t sure what happened there, but maybe they had something similar to what we use to block the security cameras. We may never know, if we don’t catch those directors. Unfortunately, they did completely vanish. Maybe they were taken somewhere else and killed.

We may never know. For now we decided to head home and recover for a while. We certainly need some time to relax after this rather odd case. After being home for a few days, Sienna came to visit with us. She also brought some news that I did not expect…
