For a smile as wide as a country sunrise
Hello everyone! As I look out my window it looks like…winter. Yesterday was very nice with a temperature of 54F (12C). It was 32F (0C) at 4am, and it is now 16F (-9C). There is a strong NW wind and it is snowing, quite a lot actually. We are supposed to get about 6 inches (15cm) of snow today. Oh well, it is spring and we can get a lot of snow this time of the year.
March is actually our snowiest month of the year. I’m back, you probably didn’t even know I was gone, did you? Anyway, I should finish my last Saturday Stories post, which I think was 2 weeks ago. If you missed that one, you can read it HERE.
I had been checking out an old abandoned house and was especially intrigued by a mystery door in the cellar. I was unable to open the door so I went back to my car to get some tools so I could open the door and see what surprises were hiding on the other side. However, back at my car I noticed there was a flat tire.
Not a good thing way back here, it would have been a long way out. But, what was even worse, I had no jack for lifting the car, which makes it a bit harder to change the tire. There was an old barn, or some kind of building on that property, so I went looking for something that might help. Sure enough, sitting on a shelf of that building was an old hydraulic jack.
Whether or not it still worked was another thing. It did seem to work okay, but will it hold the car in place while I change the tire? Guess I will find out. While in that old building looking around for the original handle for this jack, which I did finally find, I heard a rather loud crashing sound. I looked outside the building and noticed that the house had fallen down, crashing its way into the cellar.
I went over to take a look. Good thing I wasn’t in the cellar when that building decided to fall down. No way to get in the cellar now. That means the secret of that door will remain a secret. Oh well, these things happen. My theory is that the people just put in a fake door in case they decided to enlarge their house sometime and at the same time enlarge the cellar.
So, they planned ahead and put in a door rather than smashing a hole in the rock foundation at a later date. I’m probably wrong. But it’s my theory and I’m sticking to it. Anyway, I changed the tire and went back home. At least there were no bears around this time.
Well, it is still snowing out there and it’s still windy. Have a wonderful weekend everyone and God bless!

Yesterday was spring, today is winter. Quite typical for us this time of year unfortunately. Sigh. 😕☕☕

Yep, and the long range forecast for April is for colder than normal temperatures. Sigh.

Yep, but as it turned out we only got a couple inches of snow, but we had rain before that so we now have ice everywhere.

Spring weather is notorious, in North America for being erratic. One year I tent camped in the snow on the South rim of the Grand Canyon on April 20th. It was 85 F at the bottom of the Grand Canyon at the same time.. Here in the Far North, the snow has been on the ground since September, the days are mostly sunny, we get snow and it is the time for Spring festivals, world Ice Art competition, dogsled races, snow machining, skiing, snow boarding, getting outdoors and enjoying the northern lights, ice fishing, or staying indoors .
Glad you were able to find an old jack so the tire could be changed. This trip could have been disastrous on several counts. One not being able to change the tire and having to hike out or being killed when the old house fell down. God was watching out for you and keeping you safe!

Yep, spring is a very up and down time of year! Not much happens here between New Years and April. We do have a 2 day winter festival the end of February but it’s really not very exciting. We should capitalize more on having some winter activities. But here, everything focuses on summer.
Yes, I agree, God was watching over me that day. I often did some dangerous, and even foolish, things, but God was always gracious to keep me safe.😊😺☕☕
