For a smile as wide as a country sunrise
Hi everyone and Happy Friday! I missed a week for our mushroom post, time just flies too fast. Anyway, here we are with another magnificent mushroom to look at. This is the Lilac Bonnet (Mycena Pura), one of a few different purplish colored, or bluish colored mushrooms that we have in our area.
This one is quite small with a cap size anywhere from 3/4 to 2 inches (2 to 5cm) across. The edge is often curled under until it fully matures and usually has a bump in the middle of the cap. The stem is thin and hollow and anywhere from 1 to 4 inches (2.5 to 10cm) long.

They will grow in both deciduous and coniferous forest areas, sometimes singly or in smaller bunches. They have a radish-like flavor and scent and are considered edible, but should only be eaten by those who are experts in mushroom identification since they can be easily confused with nearly identical toxic species.
That possibility would definitely keep them off my list of edibles. But they are interesting to find and photograph, because, even though they regularly grow in our area, they are not easy to find. Well, that is all for our mushrooms for today, have a great day and God bless!

It sounds silly to say, but mushrooms are so interesting. Like a whole other world growing right alongside us.
