For a smile as wide as a country sunrise
It’s -40 degrees again…
The sun is shining through the pines,
Touching the snow and making lines
Of shadows long, across this snow,
As in the forest, deep, I go.
So soft the snow, I walk along,
The air is cold, chilling and strong.
I stop, listen, quiet does reign,
Then off I go, walking again.
It’s hard to breathe, with air so cold,
Yet walking slow, works best, I’m told.
Chickadees searching, ev’ry tree,
Looking for lunch, all around me.
But turning now, the snow gets deep,
The snowshoes, though, they help to keep
Me from sinking down, in this snow,
Walking is hard, onward I go.
Again I stop, for there I see,
Beautiful deer, looking at me.
That is such joy, I look and smile,
So cold this day, yet so worthwhile.
Ahh, here I am, at home again,
Warming up, I can feel the pain.
So nice to sit, here by the fire,
Yes, getting warm, is my desire.
Since it’s -40 degrees again…
