Looking At Insects. #26 Butterfly

Hi again everyone and Happy Friday!

Well, we have another butterfly to look at today though not a very colorful one. But it has its own beauty anyway and a few minor markings on its wings. Just a few pale spots and a border at the bottom which is called a frosty gray.

This is the “Northern Cloudywing”, which is a member of the “skipper” family of butterflies and fairly large for a skipper with a wingspan of 1 1/4 inches (about 31mm). It flies quite fast, and they prefer blue, purple and pink flowers. They fly from late May to early July in our area. They have one brood per season and overwinter as a caterpillar. Have a great day and God bless!
