Coffee On Wednesday. #5

Good morning everyone! It is time for some coffee and a relaxing chat sitting out on the deck again this morning. It is a bit on the cool side so you might want to wear a light jacket. Birds are singing, well, mostly that little house wren, but there is a robin a little further away and the blue jays are busy with their calls as well. And there is a chickadee in the birch tree singing his name loud and clear.

Hmm, looks like we need some more peanuts out here too. So far I have not seen any chipmunks this morning, but I am sure they will be coming to visit soon. I am actually surprised they have not shown up yet, they were here earlier than this yesterday. Perhaps they are getting ready for their big day tomorrow. Don’t forget, tomorrow is International Chipmunk Appreciation Day!

Canada Anemone.

Join in the fun by feeding a chipmunk or wearing something brown tomorrow! I will be showing some pics of chipmunks tomorrow as well. Hey, there is one now, looks like Crunchy and here he is after the peanuts. And now Baxter and Betty are here too picking up some peanuts. And here comes Jasmine as well. They all must have heard me put out that last cup of peanuts. Now Choco has arrived too. Those peanuts will not last long.

Red Columbine.

It is nice to still get a few visitors. Not feeding birds like before certainly has made a difference out here, the birds leave very quickly when the food supply is gone. That makes it more quiet out here too, with less birds singing in the trees. I wonder what has happened to Theodore the wild turkey that always came to visit? Of course she did get chased a couple of times by the neighbors big dog. That probably made her decide to stay away from the area.

Wild Lily-of-the-valley.

That sky is such a rich blue again today and looking at it with the tree tops against that blue, that is a true country pleasure. And even a city pleasure, if that is where you live. It is a beautiful morning. I have been getting some nice insect pics this week, though trying to identify them is not so easy. I am sure that some will likely remain a mystery. I will begin showing some more insect pics very soon. Thank you for joining us for coffee this morning! Have a wonderful day and God bless!

The Investigators, Inc. Back To Iceland. Chapter 1. Arrested.

Well, I’m finally back home after spending a week in the medical center. I feel almost back to normal now so hopefully we can continue our case and track down this police chief Harmon. It was just after breakfast when the police showed up at our door, 8 of them no less. I wonder what is going on now? We were going to find out very quickly. Carine answered the door and the police just pushed their way in, all the way to the library where some of us had gathered for coffee.

Fortunately Sigurbjorn was not with us. “What are you doing barging in here like this?”, I asked. “You Steve McLeod?”, said the man in charge. “Yes, I am,” I answered, “but back to my question now, what are you doing barging in here?” “You are under arrest,” he said to me and then turning to the other officers, “search the place boys.” “Hold on,” said Kat, “no one is going anywhere.” The other girls blocked the officers and Rock went over to join them.

“We have a search warrant,” he said firmly and handed it to Kat. She handed it right back saying, “this warrant is for the chateau that Steve owns, I own this chateau and no one is searching it.” “Call Baldwin Kat,” I said, which she did right away. “I am on my way over there now,” he said, “why, what is wrong?” The police are here to arrest Steve and search his chateau.” “What?”, he exclaimed, “do not let them search until I get there, I have my lawyer with me. What are the charges against Steve?”

“I do not know, he has not said yet,” she answered. “What kind of nut is he?”, said Baldwin, “tell them to wait in the entry until we get there. What are they searching for?” “According to the search warrant they are looking for someone named Sigurbjorn, but there is no one here by that name,” she told him. “My lawyer said to make them wait outside until we get there,” said Baldwin.

When the girls heard Kat mention that Sigurbjorn was not there, then Jennifer, Annelie and Carine quickly went and hid her off the property. The police seemed reluctant to go outside so I volunteered to go out with them, with Rock. It did not take long for Baldwin and his lawyer to arrive. The charges against me was murder of Mikkael and Fjola Agnarsson, threatening to kill Harmon and kidnapping Sigurbjorn who he claimed to be his adopted daughter.

They produced the proper ID for the lawyer and so I was arrested and taken back to Iceland to stand trial. Apparently Harmon and John were eyewitnesses to the murder. That was a laugh. But this was also very serious as it could land me in prison for a very long time. Baldwin had a team of 3 lawyers who were amazing at their job, but the evidence against me was getting to be overwhelming. I asked the main lawyer if I could talk with Kat, but that seemed out of the question, but I gave him a note to give her anyway.

Kat read the note and could not believe what I was asking her to do. “Annelie, I need to locate John and fast,” said Kat, “I want to meet him, wherever he wants and I will come by myself, unarmed.” Annelie thought she was crazy but she found John who was in London, England at the time. He agreed to meet Kat at a certain restaurant to keep things out in the open. “Let me get this straight,” he said trying not to laugh, “you want me to help Steve and keep him out of prison.”

“Yep, that is correct,” she said. “And what is in it for me?”, he asked. “You know I cannot offer you money, if it got out I bought your testimony we would both be in prison along with Steve,” she said, “but look at it this way, you always said that you would finish Steve yourself. If he goes to prison you will not be able to do that. And you hate this Harmon too, and he is just using you to help him.”

“No one is using me for anything,” he growled, “I would not help him if he paid me.” “But he has you down as his next witness on this case,” said Kat. “What?, I am not,” said John surprised. “You are on for tomorrow to testify,” said Kat, “unless he has someone pretending to be you, either way his is just playing you for a fool.” “No one does that to me!,” said John emphatically, “and one day it will be just me and Steve.”

As promised John was there to testify the next day, except it was not John, it did not even look like him. It has been a rough 3 weeks, sitting in jail and being in court, it was wearing on me. This Harmon must have some pull though, to get this trial going so quickly. I told my lawyer that this was not John and I had never seen him before.

To Be Continued.
