Thoughts For Thursday. #12

Good morning to all of you on this foggy Thursday! It was nice clear sky at first, then the ice fog came along. We had ice fog earlier as well and it coated everything with a nice layer of frost. It can make some ordinary items look very beautiful. It can also makes streets, highways, sidewalks and decks very slippery. So it can be both beautiful and dangerous at the same time. My deck was covered with a layer of frost from the earlier ice fog, noticeable as I went out to feed the birds this morning.

Not much bird activity again today. Yesterday did not have much activity either. There are only a few redpolls here now. There are still quite a few chickadees and red-breasted nuthatches, plus our 4 blue jays, 2 crows and a couple hairy woodpeckers. Oh, there are also 2 white-breasted nuthatches. Theodora was back this morning and very noisy today for some reason. Plus…a chipmunk was around as well! There is always one that shows up in March, though I am surprised that he was out already, there is still so much snow, and I cannot imagine that he ran out of food.

It was Pocket, who was the top chipmunk by the end of summer last year. I thought perhaps one has been around all week because the peanuts were disappearing fast at times. Hmm, some evening grosbeaks have shown up now. They came down to the feeder briefly, then went back into the trees where they have stayed chirping beautifully. I do enjoy their singing even though it is really just a chirp, but it is nice and lively and cheerful sounding. At least to me.

Baxter was calling so I went and put out more peanuts for him. He is one of the blue jays and the bravest of the group. It is still foggy. It was starting to clear up and then it came in real heavy and thick again. I want to walk to the river today if possible. I need to get in as many walks as I can, soon I will have to stop for a while until all the snow and ice has gone, especially the ice. There will be a lot of water in a couple of spots again and it is one of those spots where I injured myself back in 2019.

Well, that is something I have never seen before, a male redpoll was feeding a female! That means she has accepted him as a mate. Amazing I have not ever seen that, but I guess it normally happens once they get back to their home territory in the far north. I have seen other birds do this however and I keep hoping to get a picture. Well, that is all for this morning, thank you for stopping by, have a wonderful day and God bless!
