Good morning everyone! It is another one of those bitterly cold days here. The temperature is sitting at a balmy -38F (-39C) this morning, though it is supposed to warm up to -6F (-21C) by this afternoon. However, it will not be quite as cold tonight as the clouds return and give us another 2 inches of snow. Saturday we get even more snow, then it is a return to cold weather for all of next week. We do not normally get this kind of cold weather in February, sometimes in the first week, but not this late in the month.

It has been a cold winter. That makes the winter feel so much longer. And with all this snow we have, it will undoubtedly be a late spring this year. The only way that will change would be to get some extraordinarily warm weather, and that does not normally happen. Oh well. Early or late, we will get it when it comes. But I do hope it melts fast. Whenever we get those slow spring melts it means dealing with lots of ice for the whole month of April. And that is dangerous for people like me.

My window is completely frosted again this morning so I cannot see the bird feeders at all. But there is a lot of activity out there. Impossible to count the birds though unless I go outside, which I really don’t want to do at the moment. But there are no more than a dozen pine grosbeaks, if that many. Probably 2 dozen evening grosbeaks. Even the redpoll numbers have dropped, though I’m sure there are still more than a hundred of them. Chickadee and nuthatch numbers remain steady. I have not seen or heard a blue jay this morning.

The sun is shining brilliantly, the sky is a vivid blue. It does not appear to be any wind at all, it was calm when I put seeds out for the birds earlier. The days are getting ever longer which is so nice. I could see the daylight beginning at 6:30 this morning. The redpolls were here by 6:45. The chickadees shortly after that. The pictures today are a continuing look at my winter path to the river. There is more snow now than when those pictures were taken. Thank you for joining Muffin and I this morning.
