Good morning everyone! It is a mild morning once more, with a temperature of 30F (-1C) and cloudy. We did get just a little freezing drizzle earlier, but certainly not a problem. The birds are busy with dozens of evening grosbeaks back again. There were not many of them yesterday but it is amazing how many there are this morning. All the feeders are full and trees all around back here and in the neighbor’s yard are “alive” with these yellow birds. There seems to be more redpolls today as well.

Chickadees, nuthatches and blue jays appear to be about the same in their numbers. Going outside, the chattering from all these birds is loud. Even in here I can easily hear them. It is a very cheerful type of chattering and chirping and it really livens up the area. When there is lots of seeds on the main feeder they can really squeeze a lot of birds on it.

But, when the seeds start to run low, then there is a lot more “arguing” among the birds and only 4 or 5 of the bossiest will be on the feeder. But they still have the hanging feeders, though they only fit 4 birds comfortably, though I have seen 6 at one time per feeder. But 4 is the usual number. Yesterday it was sunny most of the day, very different from the forecast, which is fine. And the temperature was a high of 48F (9C), which was fantastic.

It would have made a great day to walk down to the river again. However, I was too sore and stiff to try it 2 days in a row. I will have to go in the mornings from now on, before the snow gets too soft. Going in the morning might produce sightings of birds or mammals I would not normally see in the afternoon. Fortunately it is still too early for bears to be out. I often wonder though, how many animals I miss seeing even though I might walk right past them.

Especially once the leaves get out on the trees and bushes making it even harder to see. Some, like bears, I don’t want to see. Others, like a lynx or bobcat would be interesting. Oh, Theodore was here yesterday, on my deck looking for sunflower seeds. First time she has been on the deck this year. Yes, Theodore is a female and I’m trying to remember to change her name to Theodora. Oh well. It is time to get my trash out to the street for pickup. Thank you so much for stopping by.
