For a smile as wide as a country sunrise
Soon the police were driving us back to our hotel. “It’s a good thing you know people in the police department,” said Candace, “that captain was certainly apologizing a lot.” “It does help for sure,” I said, and back to our room we went. I motioned to Candace not to say anything while I plugged in our scrambler device so we could talk. That little device scrambles our voices to make them impossible to understand to anyone who might be listening, no matter what device they might use. Meow!=Little light not come on scrambler! I look. He was right, they did something to that outlet, so I brought out our charger and plugged it in there, then did the same in the bedroom.
Muffin and MC continued to look around for possible hidden cameras or bombs. “These people seem to like using bombs,” I said to Candace, “it’s generally a good way to do the job with no survivors. Helps having our cats along, then can sniff out most anything. But, someone has been able to keep track of us somehow, I don’t understand how they got a bomb in our car.” “Obviously a leak in your organization too Steve,” said Candace, “I didn’t know what was going on so it couldn’t be me.” Meow, meow.=That okay, we not think it you.

Meow.=Yep, that true, but we need to watch, everyone suspect in case. Candace looks at MC. “Hmm, guess I better be extra careful then,” she said with a smile. Meow.=Oops, I sorry, not mean anything bad. “That’s okay MC, I still love you,” she said and gave him a hug. “Don’t worry Candace, I think you’re safe,” I said, “however, we need to check ourselves and make sure there is no tracking device on us or any of our stuff. You go with Muffin into the bedroom so she can check you and MC can check me out here.” Soon they come back. “We did find a tracking device on me,” said Candace, “or I should say, Muffin found it.”
Meow, meow=Here it is, but it different than others. “Hmm, it’s also a listening device,” I said, “that’s not good, they may have overheard some things I want to keep quiet. But we won’t change any plans right now. Also, your lipstick container had a device in it too.” Meow!=This one bad! I took it and tossed it out the window. It burst into flames with a loud pop. “That wasn’t much of an explosion,” said Candace. “No, kind of strange,” I said, “oh well, it’s finished now, whatever it was for.” I then contacted Baldwin and let him know what happened. He didn’t like the way things were going.
He also said that my house in Canada burned down yesterday. But how? “No one knew about that house,” I said, “except you, Calanthe and Kat. Have you mentioned it to any of your associates lately?” “No,” he said, “I haven’t talked to anyone about that house, (then he paused), except…Martha! She’s been asking a lot of questions about you and your past lately. Can’t believe I didn’t see through that!” “She’s fired, as of right now,” I said, “pay her, put her on a plane back home as soon as possible.” “It’s done Steve,” he said, “I’m so sorry about this mess.” “That’s okay Baldwin,” I said, “it’s easy to make a mistake. But now we have caught it and stopped it, which will make things easier now, I hope.”
“Right,” he said, “now tell Muffin to listen.” Then he hung up. Meow, meow=He say that Mr. Baxter come to visit soon, you talk to him at first opportunity. Why he use big words? Little words better. Candace and I chuckled. “Well, what do you think?”, I asked Candace, “did they move Anthony now?” “Most likely they did,” she said, “but here, look on this map…” Meow, meow!=Wait, camera overhead! “Look at that, so it is,” I said. “That tiny hole is a camera?”, asked Candace. “Sure is,” I said, and I moved a table over and put a piece of tape over the hole, “they can’t see through that tape, even though it looks clear, it’s a special spy tape.”

“Cool,” said Candace. The cats went searching and found two more which I also covered. Then it was time for bed. The cats took turns on watch. We had a late, and big, breakfast, then I got a call from Mr. Baxter to visit him in his room on the next floor. “I’m going by myself on this one,” I said, “but you 3 be careful, don’t open this door to anyone except me.” Meow.=Yep, me know, I listen. I went to meet this mysterious Mr. Baxter and we talked for about half an hour. Then I went back to the room. “Well, are you going to tell us who he is?”, asked Candace. “Sorry, I can’t tell anyone, not even the cats,” I said. The cats ears went straight up and they looked at each other. “But now we are on our way to get Anthony,” I said, “be ready for trouble.”

Good morning everyone! It’s another cool, cloudy morning and smoke has moved in a little stronger smelling than yesterday. As I mentioned before, we had some rain Monday with thunderstorms and that reduced our forest fires from 115 to 95. But, 70 new fires were sparked by lightning so we now have 165 forest fires burning at present. The two largest are 299,000 acres and 337,000 acres in size, with many others between 100,000 and 250,000 acres in size. Of the 165 fires, 125 of them are not under control, 11 are being held, and 29 are under control. Even with some showers and cooler weather this week, that’s still a bad situation, and it looks like warmer weather will return on the weekend. What we need is a general, widespread all day rain to stop these fires.

My gulls are not coming much anymore. Sir Charles was here this morning, and Ricky. Ricky is my ring-billed gull friend, and quite tame too. He was here in the spring, then disappeared during nesting season, now he’s back again. The others are the much bigger Herring gull. The chipmunks have been busy this morning, all but Chester have been around. Actually, Chester hasn’t been around for a while now. I hope nothing happened to him. Slim has been here too, but he hasn’t met up with any of the chipmunks. I think the chipmunks have been watching carefully so they don’t meet him.
One of the chipmunks is really chipping his warning call, must be some kind of danger out there. I can’t see anything, but maybe he just met up with Slim. Well, it’s official now, Steve and Muffin just might be doing some wandering of their own very soon. Steve’s landlord is selling her house, which includes this apartment, and that undoubtedly means Steve and Muffin will have to move out. From what Steve has learned through previous adventures like this, the new owners will want the apartment for a family member or friend, therefore Steve and Muffin will be out on the street. We have a 0 occupancy rate here, been that way for 3 years now, that simply means there are no apartments for rent, at any price.

You know a lot about Muffin, but not much about Steve. Steve is disabled, though he is still able to walk around as you know. Steve doesn’t drive or ride a bike, due to his health. Steve is on disability pension, which limits the amount he can pay for rent. So it’s going to be a rough time for Steve and Muffin. And not many places allow pets these days. This will also affect Steve’s ability to get photos to share in the future. Fortunately he has a lot that you haven’t seen yet, so that will help for quite a while. But some changes to the blog will have to be made as well, probably just not posting so often, which might not be a bad thing.

That won’t start for a while anyway. Steve is hoping the new owners will let him and Muffin stay. Steve has put his name in for a senior’s apartment, but that’s a 3 or 4 year wait, which doesn’t help right now. No matter what, feeding birds will likely be a thing of the past too, which also limits pictures. But, these things happen, it was just unexpected since Steve’s landlord never gave a hint that this was coming. But it’s still a beautiful day, the sun is shining now, though hidden by smoke. Have a wonderful day everyone and God bless!
Steve and Muffin.
