Steve’s Bird Of The Day #19.

Hello everyone! I’m a bit late today getting this out, but here we are with another of our friendly birds. This is a northern junco, also referred to as the dark-eyed junco. They are a member of the sparrow family and very friendly, often they will come hopping around your feet if you are sitting outside. And with a little patience they can be coaxed onto your hand. During spring and fall migration they are always with other sparrows. In this area they are the first sparrow to arrive in spring, anywhere from late March to late April depending on how early the spring. Usually they will be here by early April however. And they are the last to leave in the fall. They breed right across Canada, into the Arctic and in Alaska. Also south in the mountains, west and east. Females a bit lighter in color than males. Have a wonderful day everyone and God bless!

Art In Nature #7.

Hi everyone and welcome back to art in nature today! As I go out walking down the path to the river, I am always on the lookout for some things that are true pieces of art just waiting for someone to notice them. However, it’s not necessary to have a wilderness setting to find these pieces of art. Just walking down the street can do it. That has happened to me here.

Also, just walking around the yard here I often find some interesting dried flowers and plants that fit very nicely as art in nature. Like the featured image above of this very beautiful, and delicious, wild strawberry. It looked so nice I just had to take a picture of it before enjoying it’s sweet and wonderful taste. I did this with several of our wild berries last year, that way I get to enjoy their beauty as art in nature, plus their beauty on my cereal for breakfast, or in pancakes and other things.

It is actually a lot of fun to not only go for a walk, but to also add the extra enjoyment of looking for all these different objects of art. It can be a great family activity to try and find as many things as possible each time you go out for a walk together. And then trying to identify some of the items found. Some are very easy to identify, but some things like dried flowers, especially wildflowers, can be much more challenging. Well, I hope you all have a very wonderful day and God bless!
