Morning Coffee Time #56.

Good morning to all of you on this beautiful Thursday! The coffee is ready, so grab a cup and relax with us for a few minutes. It’s cloudy this morning with light snow, but a mild temperature of 15F (-9C) and heading up to 28F (-2C) for a high today. Unfortunately due to the melting for those 3 days this week, and now back to freezing temps, that snow has frozen hard as ice, and just as slippery. And with this little bit of light snow on top it will be treacherous walking out there. I just can’t imagine walking my path to the river right now, especially with those two big hills back there. They will be two big icy slides which will make them impossible going either direction. That’s bad. It means not being able to use the path until it warms up again. That could take awhile.

Portulaca.

However, if we were to get about 6 inches (15cm) of new snow, then it would make the path safe to walk again. So there we have it, warm weather or new snow. Oh well, whatever we get we will get. But it’s probably best to stay off that path for awhile at least. Muffin meows thanks for all the nice wished for her recovery, and she is feeling fine again. Must have been something she ate. And yesterday I had my appointment with the oral surgeon about my tooth. I had that pain in my tooth for 26 days (but who’s counting?), the longest I have ever had a toothache and hopefully it will never happen again. I was close to collapsing from lack of sleep, and that’s the truth, not to mention the fact I wasn’t eating properly. I lost 8 pounds this month, and believe me I didn’t need to lose any. Oh well.

Back to the surgeon. He was very nice and had the tooth out amazingly fast. Whatever he gave me for the pain numbed half my head for 6 hours but it still hurt (a lot) when he pulled it. But it was over with quickly. Then he gives me his cell phone number in case there was any problems last night. I wasn’t sure if I felt good about that or not. I didn’t want problems. And there wasn’t any. However, there is still pain this morning which he said will stick around for a couple days. But I finally slept good last night, and that was sure nice. All the birds are here this morning, except for the evening grosbeaks, but it is a bit early for them anyway. Enjoy the bright and cheery flowers, have a great day and God bless!

Steve’s Bird Of The Day #20.

Hi once again everyone! I know we have looked at a lot of different sparrows, and there are more yet, but I will end with this one for now. This is the “White-crowned Sparrow”, one of our four big sparrows, along with the Harris’, Fox, and White-throated sparrows. This is usually the last of the big sparrows to come back in the spring, but they do not stay here, they head much further north for their nesting. They like the tundra habitat or scrub trees along the edge of the tundra, right across Canada and into Alaska. They will also nest right in the tree line of the far north as well. Both sexes are the same color, the young have brown and buff colored stripes on the head. They usually arrive here in mid to late April and don’t stay around very long. In fall they come through in September/early October. Have a wonderful day everyone and God bless!
