For a smile as wide as a country sunrise
As the days are winding down,
Summer green is turning brown,
Though shorter now is it’s light,
Still the sun shines just as bright.
Birds are calling to and fro,
Saying, now it’s time to go,
We have felt that touch of frost,
And soon the leaves will be lost.
First will come that big display,
Of colors bright every day,
Brightest yellow, some of gold,
Orange and red, all so bold.
Then come clouds with wind and rain,
Which makes the trees bare again,
Now the shorter days are here,
But still the sun spreads it’s cheer!

Good morning everyone! It’s cloudy and a bit cooler today, right now it’s 50F (10C) but it’s going all the way up to 57F (14C) by this afternoon. Then it starts to cool off for the rest of the week. But it is the end of September so we have to expect that. Although they are now saying that we should have a long, warm fall this year. I’m not quite sure what they mean by that however. I had just put out some peanuts so all 8 blue jays showed up right away and so did Jasper. Jasper didn’t like all these blue jays getting “his” peanuts. He was on the deck railing along with 4 of the blue jays. The chase is on! Sort of. Jasper came running along and each of the blue jays jumped up as Jasper ran under them and came right back down again like nothing happened. Jasper came to a sudden halt, turned, saw the blue jays still there and came running back. The scene repeated itself with the blue jays jumping up while Jasper ran underneath. Jasper came to a halt and turned around. The blue jays were still there.
I think that kind of got to him and he seemed to go a bit crazy running after the blue jays, up and down the railing, back and forth, trying to jump in the air after the blue jays. Oops, that last one wasn’t so smart. I could just “see” him waving his little paw and down he went into the raspberry patch. By the time he came back up the blue jays were gone. So were the peanuts. So I put some more out and there was 2 chipmunks at those peanuts so fast. Jasper spotted them. The chase was on! One chipmunk went down the steps, one went over the edge of the deck (that’s the one Jasper followed). The chipmunk jumped, clearing the raspberry patch. Jasper was not so lucky. He came back up, scratching himself. However, while he was gone, the other chipmunks had finished off the peanuts. It doesn’t take them long. But I gave Jasper a nice big peanut. He ran off happy, ate his breakfast, then it was back to hauling away the walnuts.

The featured image at the top is a tiger lily, a nice and bright late summer flower that has long finished blooming. The picture above is the bi-colored monk’s hood, a more mid summer flower. I hope you all have a wonderful Sunday and God bless!
