For a smile as wide as a country sunrise
Good morning to everyone! It is a nice warm morning again, clear sky except for a few lingering clouds from the storms overnight and the sun was about to peek over the horizon. Muffin didn’t have a good night, even though the storms never actually hit us, they were all around us and the thunder could be heard easily. And the lightning. Some fantastic lightning last night. Fortunately I brought my chair inside last night, it’s a folding type, so it stayed dry this time. So here I sit, the sun is shining so brightly, it’s just beautiful. What’s that? I thought I felt a drop of rain. I did. Suddenly it’s pouring down from a very dark cloud above me which I wasn’t paying attention to because the sun was shining so nicely. And the birds were singing so nicely. And I’m getting wet.
I come back inside and Muffin is rolling on the floor like she often does. I’m sure she was rolling with laughter. I could tell. It was the look in her eyes. I’m back inside sitting in my chair and look out the window. Blue sky everywhere, the sun is shining brightly, the birds are singing, the air is so nice and fresh. Out I go once more, sitting there enjoying my coffee and, what was that? I felt a drop of rain. I look up and sure enough, though it’s sunny from the east, the clouds have returned and down comes the rain. It wasn’t 5 minutes. I’m getting wet. Back inside I go and the rain stops. Can this really be happening? Yes. It can. I decide to stay inside anyway. Sigh.
Well, as you can see, we have birds as our pics today. The top featured image is a female mallard duck with her little ones. There is actually two mallard families at the river, the other family is smaller, only 5 ducklings but they are a little older than this family.

Then in the 2 pics above, we have “white pelicans”. I’m trying to make friends with these pelicans and each time I am down at the river they get a little closer to me. I’m thinking I should buy some minnows to take down and feed these birds. But it seems to be working okay by just talking nicely to them. I hope you all have a wonderful day and God bless!

Hello everyone and welcome back to another coffee time here at Steve’s Country! Muffin was just here reminding me that I hadn’t done our coffee post today, which is terrible, this is so late. But that might be a good thing since it is so hot today, this might be a cooler time of day to have our time together. And today we will be back at McLeod Park, a place we visited last year for a coffee time last July. So, here we are a year later to enjoy this wonderful little park beside the lake. Unlike some of the others there is just a short walk from the parking lot to the park itself. We get to walk under the bridge right along the outlet to the river. The river along this part never freezes even in our coldest weather, due to the strong current.

There are many nice shade trees here for us to sit under, plus several benches and picnic tables for us to use as well. Plus it is quite nice to just sit on the cool grass and enjoy looking out over the lake. Hi John, nice that you could join us today. And here comes Kevin, Vincent and Giovanni too. Hi Sheree, I see Muffin has already said hi to you and no doubt waiting to see what goodies you brought today. Hi Nina and Mr. Cat. Wow, look at those two cats racing around, and on such a hot day too! But I’m sure they’ll stop once the food comes out.

Hi Ally, so nice that you had time to join us today. Hi Hilary, nice to see you again. Over there on the hill is our hospital, which is located on an island actually, but our main highway also runs across this island so the hospital is readily accessible. And across the bay we can see part of our downtown section. The park itself is rather hilly, like this whole town, and has many nice flower beds. They have just been recently planted for the summer so have not had a chance to really fill out yet, except a couple of the perennial beds. We are a bit late for some of the perennial flowers, but there is a couple nice iris left over here. And some nice odd looking flower stems coming up among those hosta over there, we’re just a little too early for those ones I see. They produce some nice light purple flowers.

Just continue to help yourselves to the coffee, iced tea and lemonade. There is regular tea as well, and mint tea, both hot and cold. I see there is some boat traffic on the lake today, though not busy like normal. There is not much bird activity in this little park, but there is a robin and a song sparrow singing for us today. And on the other end of the park and following all along the bay right into town is a favorite spot for our local Canada geese population. Time always seems to go so fast when we get together for coffee. Now it is already time to say good bye for another week. I hope you have enjoyed our time at the park today, have a most wonderful day, please stay safe and God bless!
