Daily Pics #164.

Good morning everyone! How are you doing on this fine Friday? It is a chilly morning once again, only 39F (about 4C). But it’s supposed to warm up a bit more today than it did yesterday. Out here on the deck this morning with my cup of coffee it looks like it should be so much warmer than it is. The sun is shining brilliantly, the sky is such a beautiful blue and the birds are singing so cheerfully. The birds actually sound louder this morning than normal, maybe it’s just the cooler temps. There is a red-eyed vireo sitting somewhere in a large birch tree singing his song. Hard to see these little birds sometimes now that the leaves are out fully. Oh, there he is, way up near the top, much too far away to get a picture of a small bird like that.

Pocket and Skamper have arrived for their morning peanuts and so has Baxter I see, and naturally I didn’t bring any out with me. Oh well, I need some more coffee anyway. There, that’s better, everyone is now happy. Sir George, Lady Pearl and 3 other herring gulls were here earlier for their breakfast. They showed up at precisely 5:05. There was a fair bit of “talking” between them as they all got here and took up their positions around the area, waiting for me to come out with some food. When Lady Pearl came down for her food a couple of the crows decided they would come on the feeder too which caused her to back away. That’s when Sir George came swooping down from the house top and he actually bumped that one crow right off the feeder. Those crows don’t learn easily. Now it’s time for some pics to enjoy…

In the above pic is an oddity, the “wild sarsaparilla”. There are a lot of these flowers along the path to the river.

And in this pic is one of my pink petunias before all that rain and hail hit earlier in the week. It will be awhile before my petunias are blooming again. The very top featured image is the “starflower”. Happy Friday everyone and God bless!

Daily pics #163.

Good morning everyone! The rain has stopped, the clouds have gone, it’s a beautiful sunny morning once again. Though it is a bit on the chilly side with a temp of 5C (41F). That’s cold even for us, for this time of the year. But so nice to be out on the deck again with my coffee, which I have to drink much faster before it gets cold. It’s so nice to see the sun shining on those green leaves once more. And enjoy listening to the birds singing again. Speaking of singing, Baxter is back looking for more peanuts. The chipmunks came and ran off with the rest of them. Now there is 2 squirrels out here fighting over the peanuts. Well, not really fighting, just chasing each other around while the blue jays and chipmunks run off with the peanuts. That one squirrel looks like a new one, that’s interesting.

Lost one of my squirrels a couple days ago, he drowned in my landlord’s rain barrel. Happens every year. I know the one squirrel out here is Woody and…there they go. I guess Woody won that round, sort of, though he did lose out on the peanuts so I’m not sure if he really won after all. One of those days I guess. He is looking for some peanuts but there is none left so I toss him one. He grabs it and off he goes with 3 crows chasing him. They like to follow and watch where he hides them, then they come down and get it. Though I’m quite surprised how they can be watching so close and many times still can’t find that peanut. Now for some wildflowers…

First of all, a better close up picture of the “pale corydalis”, a beautiful and bright wildflower that grows abundantly on rocky areas.

Then in the pic above is a nice group of “clintonia” flowers. These are abundant wildflowers found in more heavily forested areas. These are the first ones to bloom along the path to the river which I spotted on Monday. The featured image at the top is blueberry flowers. I hope you all have a wonderful day and God bless!
