Nature’s Art #41.
Hello to all of you on this brilliantly sunny April morning! But it is still so cool out there, it really doesn’t feel like it is April 21. But the sun is shining, the birds are busy singing and chirping all kinds of different songs and probably just a lot of talking among themselves. The chipmunks are coming for their morning peanuts. The squirrel, that I have named Woody, comes and chases the chipmunks away so he can eat a few peanuts, then he carries one off with him and the chipmunks come right back again. But the chipmunks know how to do it, they haul 3 peanuts at a time, the squirrel only one peanut. But the little chipmunks have that built in ability with their big cheeks, something the squirrels don’t have. However, the squirrels don’t complain about it, they just use what they have and enjoy it. I think there’s a lesson there for us people. If we could learn that we would be a lot happier.

And here we have some nice white berries from the baneberry plant. This plant, all parts of it, are highly poisonous, avoid it completely. It is sometimes called doll’s eyes. Consuming just 6 berries can kill. Birds however, can eat these berries without any side effects whatever.
And here we have the wild lily-of-the-valley berries which are really quite different than most berries being spotted, though later turning a light red as one berry already has done. Another plant to avoid eating, it can be deadly toxic to people.
Well, there we have two different berries, both are very interesting and add to the art that can be found in nature. But not all that looks nice or interesting is good, as these two plants show. Please do not eat the berries or any part of these plants. Perhaps instead of art this time, we should call it oddities in nature. Take care everyone, have a wonderful day and God bless!

Good morning everyone! What a surprise yesterday. It seemed to be such a nice sunny, although cool, day, but then the clouds came in after lunch and it started snowing as the temp dropped. It snowed for quite a while and turned the ground quite white again. Fortunately once the snow stopped it melted quickly. But it got cold again overnight. Seems like winter just doesn’t want to leave. Supposed to be more snow flurries today and tonight before a warming trend begins tomorrow. Muffin was not too happy yesterday of course, she wanted the door open. It’s too cold. Meow. It’s too cold. MEOW. I put shoes on. It’s too cold. CHOMP! My leg!!!! We compromised and played instead. The cold weather is bringing a lot of large bird activity to the feeder. There’s Sir George and Lady Pearl, Henry and Herb, plus about 4 new gulls, 3 for sure. And Rickie, the ring-billed gull who will now come to the feeder with me standing outside and taking his picture. Cold weather does strange things sometimes.
So I think we will continue our sunny summertime pics by the river…
This was taken in July while the water was low. By September this area where I was standing was under about 7 feet of water.
This is another of my favorite spots to sit and look out over the river, up on the rock under that big white pine tree. It’s a great spot to sit and write.
