For a smile as wide as a country sunrise

Finally got down to his stomach. That’s why you can’t get out, I said, pointing to his stomach. HA. HA. Said dad. Here, I will put this crossarm across the hole and maybe you can help pull yourself out, said I. Good idea, said dad. So I slid it across the snow. THWOCK! Oops, sorry about that. Got dad right on the side of the head. You shouldn’t have bent over like that, I said. The look on his face, amazing. I moved the crossarm in front of him. Wait, said dad, my glasses fell off in the snow. You lose those glasses a lot, said I. Dad just looked.

While dad was trying to pull himself out I was busy digging around his back and tossing the snow off to the side. AAAAA!!!!, yelled dad. Oops, sorry, guess some snow got down your neck that time. You guess? That was a lot of snow, said dad. Barely a handful, I replied. It took quite a while but we finally got him out of that hole. You know, this is the third time something like this has happened to you, I said. Dad just looked and said, bonehead! Amazing that he would enjoy this. Let’s have our coffee, said dad. Great idea!

We found a sheltered spot among some spruce trees, even a log to sit on. Dad was a bit uneasy about that, but there was no other choice, neither of us wanted to sit on the snow. And it was a short log, so we had to sit fairly close together. Dad was certainly sighing a lot for some reason. Dad sat down, so did I. Well, said dad. Well what? Where’s the coffee? You have it in your back pack, I said. Dad asked, why did you put it in my backpack? I didn’t, said I. Remember, mom made it so there wouldn’t be any complaints this time and she told you to bring it. Dad just looked. Then he looked in his backpack. Nothing. I looked in mine. Nothing. Wow, that had to be a record sigh, I said.

Never mind, let’s get back to getting those insulators. My feet are all wet, he said. You shouldn’t have put snow in your boots, I said. At that point I couldn’t take it any longer and I started laughing, and just couldn’t stop. Dad just looked. Here, don’t forget to take the axe with you. Me? My feet are wet, you can’t expect me to go out there in that wind. Now it was my turn to sigh.

Off I went back out to those crossarms. That wind was sure getting cold out there on that frozen pond as I tried removing more of those crossarms from their frozen prison. And it wasn’t easy. And dad just sat over on the shore in safety and in that small stand of spruce so he didn’t even feel the wind. Sad. Making me do all the dangerous stuff. And,
To be continued…
This should have been out yesterday, but the day ended up a bit busier than I thought, so I got a bit behind. Coffee with Steve should have come out yesterday too. It will be out a little later today. And “Touring my Town” will be out on Thursday instead of today. Or perhaps later today. Hard to tell sometimes. But I hope you all have a great day and God bless!

Good morning everyone! I hope you are having a terrific Tuesday! We had a nice sunny day yesterday, though a bit on the chilly side. But today is supposed to be nicer and much milder. Speaking of birds, they were sure busy again yesterday. I think they must be running out of their natural food now so they are coming to the feeder more looking for those delicious sunflower seeds. I’m always amazed at how many seeds one of those little birds can eat. They must have a large stomach to hold that much. Oddly I didn’t see my squirrel yesterday. He sure was having fun in that new snow on Sunday though. That was really something to watch.
And now for our pics for today…

And first on the list is this nice, bright “early goldenrod”. They usually start showing up in July and keep going right through summer.
And here we have the “three-toothed cinquefoil”. A common white beauty that blooms from early summer right through to autumn. They are normally found in dry rocky or sandy locations, but will grow most anywhere unless it’s too wet.
That’s our picks of pics for today. I hope you have a wonderful day and God bless!
