For a smile as wide as a country sunrise
I was on the phone with the lawyers that Sienna assigned to us for this case, to see if we had enough to bring down the Governor too. But even with those papers from Raven mentioning the Governor as part of the organization, that was all we had. There were no signatures from the Governor, no payments made to him in any way that we could find and he never visited any of the places used by these people.
He was very careful to keep his distance. Even Wally Haugen saying his cousin hired that hit man meant nothing really, since he didn’t mention the Governor by name, and he has other cousins. And he isn’t likely going to turn on the Governor even though he is on his way to a lengthy prison sentence. Bringing the Governor into the picture would likely mean his sure death.
However, we can try one more thing, the media. It is quite possible that if we give out enough information, the media might be able to dig up enough on the Governor to bring him down in a way that we cannot. Might be worth a try if we fail to do anything on our own. One thing we do have is that on every trip he has made to other cities, Ms. Cameron has been there at the same time, staying in the same hotel.
And, the Governor always pays for her hotel room. Plus, she shows up here, a lot, and again, he pays for her hotel room. According to hotel staff, he spends a lot of time there when she is in town. She is a known member of this sex trafficking organization, so that will not look good.
Meanwhile, we finally heard back from Aari. They found the kids, in rather rough condition, but still alive at least. They were taken to the hospital and the doctor said they would recover but they would likely have emotional scars for a long time. Hannah and her team are taking Amanda to Dallas to rejoin her kids. Jazzy is on her way to join us, with some new information.
The next day we decided to go see the Governor. Oddly enough, he didn’t take his cousin’s advice and get away for a while. Perhaps he thought it wouldn’t look good if he did. If that’s what he was thinking, he would have been right. I phoned in the morning to see if I could get in to see him that day. His secretary actually laughed. Guess that’s another way of saying no. We’ll try anyway.
Off we went and we got there just in time, he was going somewhere for a meeting of some kind. I had Sky and Kat with me, I had decided to leave Jennifer and Angel behind to look after Emerald, Cindy and Felicity. We also had the Wildcats along, although they would not be coming in with us to see the Governor except for Tracy, Marlena and Amber.
We met the Governor as he was leaving his office and we all stood in front of him. “I need to talk with you Governor,” I said. “Sorry, I have an important meeting to attend,” he said gruffly, “now, please remove yourself so I can leave.” “Our meeting is more important Governor,” I said. Then Kat began to quote some numbers to him.
They were the numbers of the crypt in the cemetery and dates of the deaths for Emerald’s family. Then she ended by saying the name Emerald. The color on the Governor’s face went from being quite reddish, to being very pale and he got this stone cold look on his face as well. “Okay, come, I will give you just a few minutes,” he said firmly as he turned to return to his office with us walking behind him.
“Only you can come in,” he said to me. “My bodyguards come with me everywhere,” I said, “and don’t try to stop them.” We all walked in, with the Governor’s two bodyguards behind us. There were another 2 bodyguards in his office as well, which gives him four to my five. However, his bodyguards are bigger than mine.
However, size isn’t everything, I would only need one bodyguard to take care of his 4. “Now, what do you want?” he asked, “Money, I imagine.” “No Governor,” I said, “I don’t want your money, I have enough of my own. I would really like to put you in prison, but that might take some time and I have other things to do.
Your cousin, Wally, and his friend Cairns, have now been arrested and will be spending a lot of time in prison for their parts in a sex trafficking organization which you are involved with as well.” “I deny any involvement with whatever they do,” he said smiling, “and there is no way for you to prove that I am involved.”
I then handed him a copy of the papers we received from Raven. “You are mentioned in here as the third partner of that organization Governor,” I said. “So what?” he asked, “People say all sorts of things, but this proves nothing. You need some actual proof.”
“We do have your cousin saying that you hired a professional hitman to kill a certain young woman named Felicity, Martin’s girlfriend,” I said, “but fortunately he missed his mark and died.” “That is still not proof,” he said, “and I can prove I had no involvement with such a thing, that is not how I operate.” “I would say that is amazing coincidence Governor,” I said, “if you are relying on your lawyers you better think again, we have better lawyers on our side.”
I then told him the names of our lawyers. He did look startled when I told him, but he tried to keep his composure when he talked. “Then there is the mysterious disappearance of Amanda and her children,” I continued, “her children ended up in a photo studio in Dallas which was part of this sex trafficking organization, specializing in children.
And it was owned and operated by a Ms. Deborah Cameron. Does that name mean anything?” “Never heard of the woman,” he said firmly, “now, I need to go.” “Sit down Governor,” I said, “we are not finished. You know Ms. Cameron Governor, she is your girlfriend, and that is easy to prove.
She appears in every hotel you stay in on your various trips, and you always pay for her accommodation, and you have been photographed with her at some of these hotels. And Ms. Cameron is willing to admit she is your girlfriend. Can you imagine what the media would do with that Governor?” “That’s extortion!” he yelled, “now get out before I call the police!”
“You have been trying to call them already,” I said, “but your help button doesn’t seem to be working. That’s okay though, the police are in the outer office waiting to arrest you. As it turns out, we can prove you were part of that sex trafficking organization and we found the bank account where your share of the money goes, an account you share with Ms. Cameron.
And, she is willing to testify against you. Have a nice day Governor.” We then left and the police arrested him. Well, this case is over, Amanda and her kids are with Sienna right now and she will be giving Amanda a job in Baldwin Corp. Cindy, the hotel clerk, has been studying to be a nurse, with just one year to go and we have arranged for her to finish that year in our clinic working with Dr. Samantha.
She will stay with us as a nurse, something that we certainly need. Emerald and Brandy have both asked to join our team, so they are getting ready to begin our tests. Felicity will also join us, but as a junior member for now, she won’t go on any cases until she is 18.
The police have dismantled that organization, but somehow I doubt Cairns and his friends will spend much time in prison. Now we can relax again for a while until the next case shows up, and that won’t be long.
The End. A new case will begin soon!

Good morning everyone on this second day of spring. It feels more like winter though. Yesterday it was 43F (6C), and right now it is 10F (-12C). It was 25F (-4C) at 4am, but there is a north wind blowing which is pushing that temperature down steadily all through the day until it hits about -4F (-20C) tonight. The poor birds that came back from the south already are probably thinking they should head back south. Oh well. Spring will arrive when it gets here. Anyway, here is our country quote for today.

Every path has a few puddles.
Have a wonderful day everyone and God bless!
Steve and Muffin.
