For a smile as wide as a country sunrise
Hello everyone on another sunny day here at Steve’s Country. We did have a bit of rain overnight and there must have been thunderstorms in the area. Muffin sensed it and hid under the bed. I didn’t hear any thunder. But I will trust her anytime. And this morning the temperature was only 13C. That’s only about 55.5F. That is way too cool for July, even in this cold climate. Oh well. I hope that doesn’t mean something. The main thing is, the sun is shining. But you know, if we look at things right, the sun is always shining. Just sometimes we can’t see it, that’s all.

Okay, back to the river for part 2 of our walk this week. From the initial location, which was so beautiful in itself, I turned to the right to follow the trail alongside the river. I didn’t get far when I spotted a large white bird on the water. A white pelican. I have been wanting to get a picture of a pelican for some time now. Finally. Got one. Actually, more than one. It was a little far away, but I am happy with it for now. It’s always so nice to get a picture of something different.

I kept going. I wanted to see if I could get a picture of our dam from here. Sure enough, there it was. I couldn’t see the whole thing though. The trail ends at that spot. Nothing but steep sloped ground ahead. It’s the only way to get a picture of the whole dam though. But it’s something to do next time.

I decided to come back a bit to a nice spot I saw, just to sit, relax and enjoy the view across the river for a while. It is just so calm and peaceful here. People need to get out more often and enjoy nature. If you live in a town or city and can’t make it to a country location, there usually is parks and other green spaces that you can go to and just relax for a while. Enjoy the beauty of the trees, bushes, flowers. Listen to the birds singing. Watch them as they fly about. Breathe in that beauty folks. Stress, worry, anxiety will fly away quickly. Allow that beauty to come in. Think about it for a while. Enjoy it. Feast on it. Stress can’t hang around long when we are doing that.

As I was sitting I saw a duck coming along the shore with her babies. Fantastic. I have been waiting for an opportunity like this. It is a common merganser. Amazing how those little ducklings can swim in that fast current. Though I noticed they were taking turns riding on mom’s back. Need a break now and then I guess. I got some pictures but was hoping for something even better. So I decided to try and get ahead of them. I got as low as I could and started across this big rock outcropping. I thought it was a good idea. But I slipped. And there was nothing to hold onto. And nothing but deep water and terrible current below me. I kept sliding as I desperately tried to stop myself. It was kind of a steep sloping rock.

Finally I stopped. A couple feet above the water. There was some little ridges on the rock at that point which helped. If I had gone into the river, well, no more Steve. I would have been gone very fast. But I managed to move slowly sideways until I reached a spot where I could jump off to safety. Scared the ducks too. Oh well. I did get some good pictures anyway. Really, I knew I shouldn’t have gone across that rock, but it was quicker and quieter than going around. Sometimes I tend to take chances. Never usually works out so good. Well, I guess sometimes it works. But I think I need to be a bit more careful.
That’s all for today folks. I hope you enjoyed part 2 of my river walk. Yes, part 3 will be coming. I hope you all have a great day and God bless!
Steve and Muffin.

Amazing how they can bounce around on top, yet people get sucked under right away. Probably the weight factor. Those little ducks don’t weigh anything.🤔😀🤪

Very True! I’ve always been fascinated by that. Even when they are that little they can sure scoot across the water.

Thank you Sheree! Yes, I do for sure, but I always seem to end up taking chances. Maybe it has to do with being single? Have a nice evening!😁😸

You have responsibilities. Who’d look after Muffin?
LikeLiked by 1 person
Yes, right now Muffin is my only real responsibility to worry about, but I do have that taken care of in case something should happen to me. Still, I know, I need to be more careful. Thanks Sheree! Good to be reminded for sure.🙂🌞😸

You are not single, your biggest responsibility is Muffin 😺😺 you are for her and she is for you. Just ask her how worried she is for you when ever you go out 🙀🙀
Always take great care of yourself. 🙂🙂🙏🙏

I agree, Muffin is my responsibility. Actually I think she just sleeps when I’m out, though after my vacation she does have a worried look about her whenever I go out the door. I do try to take care of myself and hopefully will do better in the future. Enjoy your evening Saba!😁😸🙂

Well Steve what to say? Thanks God for your safety and you should really take care and stop taking chances for the sake of good photos
especially when there are no people around or so, it’s dangerous!
Of course the place is amazing and the pictures as well, this pelican shot is so good and must be a great walk for the second day in this beautiful place! You’re inviting people to go, probably when they do, it won’t be that enjoyable 😀
Hope the weather will get better and glad the sun is shining despite 😁Have a great day 🌞😸

Hello Huguette, yes indeed, thank God for my safety, too close really, it was scary for a bit. I think I will be a bit more careful from now on, especially since I’m always by myself. Yes, some places it’s nice to be alone or just with one other person.🙂 Always nice to share some things with someone else, makes it more special.😁 But, get too many people and peacefulness is gone.🙄The sun continues to shine but still cooler than it should be, nice though. Getting late your way, hope your night is good and tomorrow is great!!😃😺

Yes sure you should! It’s your safety after all and it’s the most important 🙂 and yes too much people ruin the moment and the place as well😸
Yes it’s actually more like spring or autumn but hope it will get better
Yes almost midnight and wish you a great day ahead as well and mostly safe 😺 🌞

Thanks for stopping by Ilona, yes, sometimes that thunder can be loud and sudden. Muffin hates it, I always used to like it until one thunderstorm flooded my apartment, now that’s what I think of when it storms. Thanks for your encouraging words Ilona. Are you going to be up for a while yet?😁😸🌙

Yes, I guess that is true, I will try to do better. I will be going back to the river regularly, I’m sure there will be other good pictures down there, perhaps other birds, I would really like to get an eagle picture and they are at the river a lot. I am going to start taking picture all over town to do a town tour this winter, just so I don’t have to talk about snow all the time. Plus there are a couple hiking trails I want to check out as well.😁📷🚶♂️😃

Every day a new adventure! Wonderful! It often happened to me to go for walks or hikes alone and find myself in difficulty. In those moments I think that I’m foolish to put myself in those situations, but then when I’m at home I want to go and have new adventures. Now that I have the baby though I almost don’t do it anymore. I can’t!
Wonderful the pelican!
Have a good day!

Yes, that’s the way I feel all the time. I can understand now there needs to be changes for you with a baby. Sometimes I just don’t think at the time, I’m concentrating on something, like getting a picture and not thinking about what’s going on around me. I have been in a lot of bad spots over the last few years! Thanks for reading and a wonderful comment. Enjoy your day as well!😃😺
