For a smile as wide as a country sunrise
Hello everyone on this beautiful sunny day here at Steve’s Country! Oh my, we had a couple of big thunderstorms overnight which made things a bit wet. Poor Muffin. She does not like thunderstorms, as you know. I got up around 1:30am and couldn’t see Muffin anywhere. It was raining at the time, but that doesn’t bother Muffin. Found her hiding under the bed. Quite curious. No thunder around. About 5 minutes later I heard the thunder in the distance. She knew.
Anyway, I figured it would be better to have our coffee a bit later today to give things a chance to dry out nicely. Fortunately with the sun shining like this it didn’t take long for everything to dry. I thought we would be a little different today with our coffee time. Instead of visiting a regular park, let’s check out a different sort of park. And this would be our railroad museum. The Canadian Pacific Railway has played a big role in our town’s history and development ever since it came through this area in the 1880s. So this small museum is dedicated to that.
They do have some beautiful flowers here which help to make the place very inviting. Plus, between the flowers are some very nice benches for us to sit on while we have our coffee. There are a few white puffy clouds floating overhead. And if you look over there the moon is still shining brightly against the brilliant blue sky.
Unfortunately the indoor museum is only open later in the day so we can’t see that part. But I hope to show you some of that at a later time. But we can still see the outdoor items such as the yard locomotive. These were much smaller than the regular locomotives that are normally used for pulling long trains. These ones were just used in the yard for moving railroad cars around, taking them off trains or adding to the trains.
And of course, the caboose which they stopped using years ago. There is the little hand car, usually two men would operate that, pumping the handle to make it move. They would regularly patrol the rail lines to make sure everything was okay.
There is the luggage cart used at the train depot for loading and unloading luggage from trains back when trains were a normal means for traveling. Even the bus stop is made to look like our train station. I will show a picture of our train station when I do a tour of our town.
Whole train loads of logs were shipped out of this area beginning in the late 1800s once the railroad was ready. That really made our logging industry thrive at the time. As well there was much gold shipped out of this area by train. There were many gold mines in this area during the late 1800s and early 1900s, but they didn’t last as most of the gold was only shallow. There was a couple mines that kept going for a longer period of time. Plus there were major flour mills here that also used the trains for shipping their product to other parts of the country.
It really is a nice little spot right here to sit and drink our coffee and have a time to visit for a while. I always enjoy our coffee breaks. I hope you enjoyed this today, I know it was a little different so maybe not everyone’s favorite. We will be at another different location next time. I hope you enjoyed today anyway, have a great day and God bless!
Steve and Muffin.

Hi Nina, nice to see you here again today! Yep, Muffin is behaving, she’s catching up on all the sleep she lost last night due to the storms.🙀😬 She will likely sleep all day!😂😹 Hope your day is going well and thanks for reading!😃😺 I’m off for my walk!😄🚶♂️🌳

Garden is doing good. Rains came today—which I know—woohoo big deal. But for us now—rain is a blessing! Super grateful to see the rains.😊
Oh nice! 5 inch mushroom! They can be like that—one day nothing, next day—boom! And then gone again. Look forward to seeing the pictures.🍄🌲🍄🌲

Well, as long as you’re not rolling on the floor laughing! I’m hoping for a little less rain, but it looks like quite a bit is coming our way this weekend and into next week. Going to make it hard to get out walking. Oh well. Just need to sort out those mushroom pics, then I can show them. They are very interesting to see and photograph. Enjoy your day!😃😺🌳🌻🍄

Aw thank you, Renee🥰. It sure feels good to sing again. (make a noise!). I’m working on another piece now. Been humming away!! We’re created with built in instruments—and it’s a wonderful thing. 😊😊😊 Thank you for the encouragement and support. I’ll keep practicing.

I absolutely adore this spot! As an introvert, places like this just calm my soul. Especially in the quiet of the day.
I love the flowers and those trains are fascinating. I’ve always been fascinated with them. There is a long train ride that goes through some part of Canada that is particularly interesting. Have you ever had the chance to do that?
Sending lots of love and blessings your way, Steve. God bless! ♥

Hi Holly, thanks for stopping by today!🙂 I have always loved trains too and yet I have never been on a train in my life!😀 Kind of odd I guess, but in our modern world, vehicles and planes seem to be the main mode of transportation now. Thanks Holly, God bless!😃😺🌞🌳

Very nice Steve! I love Rail Road Museums. So interesting seeing the items that were used to make light work of moving things around. I have always wanted to try one of those Rail Carts! I’m sure they were more work than one would think! Very Nice Post! RJ

Thanks for reading today Red!🙂 Railroad museums are great places to visit. Apparently with those rail carts the hard part is getting going, but once it’s moving it’s much easier. 😀 I talked with an older railroader who told me this.😀 I had his info written down, I had talked to him for quite awhile, but lost it all when my place flooded. Joys.😂😃😺

Ahh… you had it stored where you needed it! In your brain… No floods there! Great write up today!

No floods there? I’m not so sure about that! I can remember a bit, but most of our conversation is gone for good. Thanks Red!😃😺

We had trains in Lebanon at the time of the Ottoman Empire ( Old Turkish empire ) in the beginning of the twentieth century, but now they no longer operate . Sure , modern subways and electric trains are much faster , cleaner and more quiet as those in Europe , China and Japan for example …
I have used the modern metro in the capital city of Malaysia , which is somehow fast but I think the metros in China , Japan and Europe especially western and Northren Europe are more developed and faster I think …
May God bless our world …

Yes, they have made great improvements over the years. We still use regular trains over here, I don’t think electric would be powerful enough to haul our long trains of heavy commodities such as grain and oil. Thanks for reading today!😃😺

Electric trains cpuld also powerful like diesel trains As I have read and they could get electric power fromrenewable energy resources…

I have my doubts on electric trains, like electric cars, they need a lot of improvement for countries that are large and cold. Cold drains the electric power from cars very fast, so they are not much good in our climate. Plus distances are so great here and cars just can’t travel far enough on a charge. One day they will get there I’m sure.

We have a lot of electric cars, just not practical yet, even for city driving, except certain areas of the country, but they are only a city vehicle for now and they still need much improvement to handle our winters. And our towns and cities are just too far apart in areas like this. Eventually they might make it, but they will also need to reduce the price of them to make them competitive.

They are in the infancy stage still like airplanes in the beginning of the the 20th century …They would mature later on …

Oh and our dog does the same thing with storms. I don’t know if she can hear them coming, smell them somehow or some other combination. She got scared recently too and sure enough a storm rolled in a few minutes later.

Apparently animals can sense the difference in the atmospheric pressure which drops ahead of a storm. How fast and how much it drops tells the animals how bad the storm will be.

Hello Steve and hope Wednesday is great 🙂 it’s actually a very good idea to know about the railroad history through this museum 👍 something new to know and check all what they used in previous years 🙂
And it’s always sad to hear that Thunderstorms were back again and Muffin was afraid 😕 certainly frightening so hopefully the weather will be better at least before the winter
Thank you for sharing the nice pictures and information and enjoy your day 🌞🌞😸
