Daily Pics #17.

Hello everyone!  I hope you are all feeling well today.  It’s another chilly morning here, still dark, nothing moving outside that I can see.  However, I can’t see very far.  Muffin, on the other hand, seems to be watching something intently.  I try, but cannot, see anything in the direction she is looking.  Probably another cat, or even a deer.  Muffin really does like the deer, but misses having them come up nice and close.  The deer won’t come up on the deck ever since my landlord painted it.  Much too slippery now is my guess.  Well, here are today’s pics to brighten our day…IMG_3248

A couple of beautiful, and bright orange, Iceland poppies to start things off.IMG_5384

And also a nice bright orange, an old style double daylily.  These daylily plants, from my landlord’s garden, are more than 60 years old.

Something definitely nice and bright for the day.  Happy Thanksgiving to all my American readers today!!  And I hope that all of you have a wonderful day and God bless!

Steve and Muffin.

  1. Hopefully you have time to reply to my lengthy message from last night. If not that’s okay too; I know you are busy.

*yawn* Happy Thursday! I haven’t had coffee yet but I’m about to make some. It’s MCDs coffee, of course. mmmm. ☕️💕

      • Thanks Steve, I’m looking forward to reading it. And no worries! 🙂 Idk what we would do without coffee early in the morning. I’m actually surprised I managed to wake up early 3 days in a row now. Today I “slept in” until 6:30 AM after learning that this alarm clock has a snooze button! 🤫😀 It’s an old fashioned, obnoxious alarm clock that I still don’t hear very well but it sure beats Google Home which I didn’t hear at all on volume 10. This alarm clock doesn’t even have radio but it’s not a huge sacrifice since I use my phone for radio anyways.

      • Yeah, mine is old fashioned too and has one of those snooze buttons, which I admit, I don’t like. Usually I don’t have trouble waking up early anyway, just a normal thing for me, though in winter sometimes it can be harder. So I use the alarm just in case. I usually wake up between 5 and 5:30, earlier in summer since it’s daylight earlier.
That’s good, keep it up, it really is nice once you get used to it.😀😄☕

      • Ah, you joined the 5AM club without knowing it! Or maybe you have heard of the club. I was sleeping in late before, waking up really late, and wouldn’t accomplish much during the day. Ever since April, I’ve slept most of my life away because I lacked a purpose to get up. Now when I get up, I do some meditation and journal while Becca sleeps. I feel like my life is more in order when I add order to my life.

Now, I try to wake up at 5:30 every morning. Ideally, waking up at 5 would be amazing, but baby steps. The house is clean and the day is only half over. Usually, I would be cleaning until the later hours and by then, I lacked any kind of energy to really do anything productive. Thanks for reading! 😀🌺

      • Hmm, never heard of the 5AM club. In summer it’s 4 am. I have most energy in the morning, if I get up early then I get things done and I like getting things done early so that other things can be done.
Yep, little by little, easier that way and less chance of giving up. Keep at it Hilary! Enjoy your evening. I’m enjoying mine with Muffin and a cup of raspberry leaf tea.😁😸☕🌙

      • The 5AM club is a term coined by Robin Sharma. I stumbled upon this particular podcast a few days ago and for some reason it really resonated with me. So I’m trying it with the hopes of having a consistent schedule by the time school starts. I will need to wake up at 4AM some days for school which sounds impossible right now. Anything is possible with the right mindset! You’re lucky that raspberry leaf tea is decaffeinated. 🍵🌙

      • Not bad, a member of a club without even knowing it. You can do it. Everything can be hard at first, but it gets easier the more you do it.
Yep, that’s the nice thing about these kinds of tea. Though caffeine never kept me awake before, it does now. Odd how things like that can change.
Muffin must have had a bad dream, she just jumped awake and now wants to snuggle. She very literally jumped to her feet!🙀
Not much action on my blog this evening, it’s actually been kind of a slow day. Of course it is American Thanksgiving, but that’s only in the US. One of those days I guess.😁😂😹

      • I’m so exhausted and want to go to bed and it’s only 7:30 PM right now. Today I had a really hard time staying awake but I refuse to take naps during the day. If I drink caffeine after 12 PM, I’m wired all evening. I used to go to bed at 2 AM so drinking caffeinated beverages were fine until 5 PM, but now my whole day has shifted. Its almost like I’m experiencing jet leg right now. 😴

I wonder what Muffin was dreaming about… maybe you forgot to feed her in her nightmare? Or did a squirrel steal her food? Timon the cat was sleeping on the living room chair not so long ago but he wandered off somewhere. Most evenings he will snuggle with me too. I love this cat so much. 😊💕

I’m sorry it was a slow day for you. I also noticed that it was crickets over here for most of the afternoon/evening. Here’s a fun fact: For every Canadian Blogger, there are 10 US bloggers. Same goes for population. 38M Canadians vs. 380M Americans unless this stat has changed. *yawn* I’m too tired to think…..

      • Good morning Hilary! I see you are up bright and early again. It does take some time getting used to your new time change, especially in the evening because you end up tired so early. I generally go to bed around 9:30, but even 10 is okay if I don’t do it all the time. I aim for 7 to 7 1/2 hours sleep which works good for me. Anything less and I’m tired during the day.
One time Muffin jumped awake like that and swatted me.😾 Then she realized it was me and started purring right away.😸 Must have been a person involved in that dream. Cats are a great stress reliever, help during sickness, discouragement, depression. That’s why I did a short series on cats and health.😺
I knew there was a 10x difference in population, interesting that bloggers are 10x different too. I don’t have many Canadian followers, the US and India are the 2 biggest countries for me. Not sure which has the most followers.🤔
I hope you have a great day Hilary!😁😸⛄🌲

      • My night was very disrupted so I am not as productive as I would like to be this morning. The cat woke me up at 4 AM and fell asleep on my stomach, purring away. Their purrs are so therapeutic and the purr frequencies are good for healing (I read that somewhere). I would probably still be in a major slump if it wasn’t for my cat, so I agree with you that cats are really good for relieving depression, anxiety, and other things. I think I read part of your series – that series rings a bell for me. 😸

Canadian followers are far and few in between. It always makes me excited whenever I find out that a blogger is from Canada! Have a great day too, Steve! ☕😊

        Liked by 1 person

      • hehe! Yes, indeed, their purr is very therapeutic 😺and the frequency is just right for helping to heal even physical injuries. So Muffin is being a big help to heal my injury faster.😻 Now if I could just stop doing things…🤔🙄🤪
        Yes, I can’t remember if that series was 2 or 3 parts.🤔
I only have 7 Canadian followers, plus 4 more that read, but don’t follow. The US was always in the top spot, but India is now, though not by much.
Think I need more coffee, only had one cup this morning.😁☕

        Liked by 1 person

      • Interesting observations! 🧐 My top spots are US, Canada, India, and the UK. I didn’t count the total number of Canadians I follow, but it’s definitely less than 10. 😏

I can’t imagine myself quitting overall, considering that my traffic is up by 460% this year. I was going through my old email notifications and the majority of bloggers I found have either a) shut their blog down or b) haven’t updated in over a year. It’s sad to see so many people quit like that. It makes me want to persevere and not give up! It also makes me wonder what the appeal is with Instagram (many of them migrated over there) and why ppl can stick to that but not blogging….

How many cups of coffee do you normally have in a day? I’m so sleepy that I’m now drinking chai tea to hopefully wake up. 😴🍵

        Liked by 1 person

      • I used to have 4 8 ounce cups a day. I now only have 2 15 ounce cups. So I’m down 2 cups. Not bad really.😂🙄 At one time I would drink 12 or more cups per day.😳☕
Yes, you should persevere with it! Yes, way too many people have given up for various reasons. A number of my followers have moved to Instagram and even Facebook. Seems they think they can reach more people that way. That’s what I have been told anyway. I always get new followers too, most are new bloggers and a lot of new bloggers quit the first year. I really think it’s because they try to do too much.
My traffic is up by just over 700% from last year, but right now it’s on a downward trend. I imagine Dec will be a slow month due to Christmas. Muffin and I don’t do anything so it’s just another month really. I do decorate and normally would have that done by now. Sigh. Need to get my Christmas cards finished too. I’m late.😂😁🙄

      • I’m not very good at math but that sounds like the same amount (minus 2 ounces). ☕

But why?!? Why would they move to other social media platforms when WP is the most worthwhile one? That’s my honest opinion. I am not sure how they are increasing their reach since FB pages are basically dead ever since the FB algorithm came along, and the majority of IG followers are bots. To each their own I guess. 🙄🤷‍♀️

I used to use the other platforms but had to question what my overall goal was. And honestly, I couldn’t answer that question. Sadly, a lot of people live on these platforms and did not reach out to me after I left FB and IG even though I gave them my number. Like texting and email does not exist apparently? 🤦‍♀️

It’s very nice that you send Christmas cards to family and friends. In the past, I sent cards but rarely received any in return. This year, I will be travelling to Ontario, so I don’t really feel like sending cards this year.😔😥

        Liked by 1 person

      • But it’s still fewer cups!😜☕🙄
I really don’t understand why people go to those other platforms. I only used IG, and only for a short time to keep in touch with a few friends that moved from the area. But I finally quit that, everyone had my email. But they all said the same thing, email is too slow, a thing of the past. Never heard from any of them since I quit IG.
I have cut several people off my Christmas card list. I figure if they don’t send out cards, then they probably don’t appreciate getting them either. I know one person who actually complained about getting them and just tossed them in the blue box right away. So sad. Probably cards will become another thing of the past soon. I only get about 25% of the cards I used to get. High cost of postage probably has something to do with it too.🤔
I have started to make a Christmas wreath today. My fall wreath turned out good so hopefully this one will too. We shall see.😀

      • This is incredibly sad, Steve. 😭 BTW, your comment kept getting pushed down on my notifications so it was hard for me to find it again. I still have another reply to do for you, but I have forgotten which blog post it was… *sigh*

I keep my cards because they are meaningful to me. Cards are rare to get these days and I think it was wrong of that person who complained and said such mean things. You did the right thing by cutting this person off since he/she clearly didn’t appreciate your kindness. That’s really neat that you make wreaths! I learned something new about you today. Have a good evening! 😊🌙

      • Good morning Hilary! Yes, it’s easy for comments to get lost, especially when they are on different posts.
My Christmas card list has gotten a lot shorter than it used to be, so many people just can’t be bothered with sending out cards. I have heard several people say this. Their Christmas greeting is on Facebook, check it out they say. So nice and personal that way, I say in return. True, I’m being a bit sarcastic, can’t help it. Yes, it takes time to send out cards, but it’s personal. Shows you are actually thinking about the other person.
Yep, along my river path are thousands of pine cones, not doing anything. They sell them at Canadian Tire for $11a bag (12), maybe higher this year. So I decided to try and do something with them. I should have collected more, but that I had lots of time. Sigh. Anyway, I have one fall wreath, now I have started a Christmas wreath, made with different pine/spruce cones. Was going to make other decorations too, but ran out of cones. Also had to keep my wreaths small, which is probably good since I don’t have much storage space here.
I like DIY projects, country/primitive projects especially.
Hope you have a nice relaxing day!😃😺⛄🌲🌞

      • I could sense the sarcasm in your writing and get what you’re saying. FB is the furthest from personal a person can get. A mass shoutout is not the same thing as personally wishing someone well. Texting is not the same as writing. Email is not the same as a phone call, but at least it’s more personal than a FB shoutout! People these days make me shake my head. 😓😑

That’s insane that Canadian Tire is selling pine cones! Are they coated with a nice smell at least? Does Canadian Tire smell like Christmas? It’s crazy what people are willing to pay for something that exists in nature for FREE. What you can do with the pine cones is paint them green and put white paint flecks on them to make them look like snowy trees. My mom used to paint her pine cones like this, and used a layer of clear glitter paint to really make them sparkle. She used them as part of her Christmas display!

She also made wreaths using pine cones but she stopped making wreaths many years ago. My mom used to be very crafty, and I wish she still had hobbies. She taught me how to wrap presents to make them look pretty. She taught me to send cards to show people that I care. It’s sad what the world has become now. People may call it convenience but I call it an excuse to be lazy. 😓😑

      • Yep, not everything in our modern society is good. We have lost the ability to even understand what personal contact is all about now. Sad indeed.
They do have cinnamon scented pine cones, they are cheaper than the regular ones, which makes no sense. One lady was actually amazed I would use “wild” pine cones. Picking them off the ground they would have bugs or bacteria, you could get sick, she said. Um, those pine cones came from off the ground too, they are not specially grown on “tame” trees. Amazing.
I used to do more crafts than I do now, mostly I do woodworking crafts, bird houses (real and decorative types), frames, small DIY things, curio shelves. It’s a little harder now in this small apartment.
I agree, people are getting lazy in these things.😕🙄😬

      • “Ewwww….I’m not touching that! It’s been on the ground!” -quote from the TV show, Arthur (kids show that originally aired in the 90’s and took a turn for the worst after the 2000’s)

Yup. “Wild” pine cones. Like, what a concept!! LOL 😂🤣

      • Yeah, I almost burst out laughing that people would actually think there was a difference in the pine cones. Oh well. Sometimes it’s really hard to prevent a laugh.😂😂🤣🤣😹😹

  2. Happy Thanksgiving! Much to be thankful for—everyday. 6 1/2 inches of snow fell here—hurricane force winds off the coast! Wow! What a storm! But we are tucked in safely….😊😊😊

    • Our Thanksgiving was last month, but thanks anyway! Yes, we should be thankful every day, we have so much. Glad you were safe from the storm! Happy Thanksgiving! Eat a little extra turkey for me, I remember it tasted so good!😀😂😸

      • Mmm…extra cheesecake? Yes, we are safe here with the mountains protecting us. Some crazy winds! Wow!! Trees down all over the place. We could see the winds whipping above on the ridge—wind shear—but fortunately for us calm. Lots of snow. Woohoo!! We played like kids in it all day and now I’m feeling my age again…so sore! Ha!
A quiet day for us. Our friend is coming with a suckling piggy that he has prepared. He started the Keto diet so I’m making low carb cheesecake and crackers.
How is your diet? No more maple donuts huh? Sigh….they sounded sooooo yummy. ☃️🐷

        Liked by 1 person

      • Yes, maple donuts are off the list now. They were so good. I love cheesecake too, but too much dairy for me now also. Sigh. Gluten free diet is no fun, all the good stuff gone. It’s so hard to find gluten free in this little town so I have to order mostly from Amazon. At least they deliver.😀 And it is a bit cheaper on most things too.😃 I don’t know why they have to put so much sugar in gluten free food, unless they are trying to make it taste better.😂😹🙄
I have to go out later for another treatment. Don’t feel like going out, nothing but ice. It was melting on the weekend, then froze. Dangerous out there.😲😳
Oh well, walk slow I guess. I would rather be inside with a cup of tea.😀☕ Enjoy your meal!

Thanks for checking the pics.😃 Yep, it’s an old plant and my landlord has been trying to kill it for about 10 years now.😳 Personally I think it’s a beauty, but she hates it.🤔🙄I hope you have a fantastic Friday Simon!
