Good morning on this beautiful, sunny Saturday! It is going to be a hot day for us with the temp getting up to 90F (32C) this afternoon, but it will feel hotter due to the humidity. And it’s supposed to stay this way for a few days. We haven’t had temps like this in years, feels more like a typical summer once more. Actually our summers have been generally cooling off for the last 20 years. Before that we could count on getting temps like this for about 3 weeks each summer. So it’s kind of nice to have real summer temps coming our way. Wow, it was just fabulous sitting on the deck this morning, warm and so fresh smelling. The sun causing the leaves to “glow” in varying shades of green. The wren singing so loudly and non stop. It’s always amazing how long birds can keep up with their singing in the morning. The phoebe joining the chorus again.

The grackles walking in the sun with their colorful feathers literally sparkling. The blue headed grackle doesn’t mind the sight of the camera, but the purple headed grackle flies when he sees it, even though he’s brave enough to come close when the camera is not if view. Sigh. The female hairy woodpecker was out here with one of her babies, who is just as big as she is now. The mother was so quickly going through the sunflower seeds, then coming over to the baby to feed her. But even though I tried to be quiet coming out the door to get a picture of them, the squirrel came along just then and scared them away.

The top pic today is two pelicans down at the river, they are getting braver all the time with me sitting there so they keep coming closer. You can see the bump on the one pelicans beak, that one is a breeder, the other one is still too young.

In the pic above are male (in the water) and female ( on the rock) common merganser ducks. I was able to sneak up on them the other day while they were taking a nap. They did wake up when I got there but I sat down right away so they just went back to sleep again. Guess they are getting used to seeing me as well.
