For a smile as wide as a country sunrise
Good morning everyone! It is a beautiful, warm and sunny summer morning! That’s supposed to change a little bit later though with thunderstorms moving in later this morning and continuing until tomorrow. But for now it is beautiful outside, just a light breeze, warm sunshine, birds singing their melodic songs, so nice. Then, of course, there is the constant chatter of the two squirrels this morning, Runner and Jasper. They have been chasing each other around, then they stop momentarily and chatter at each other, then the chase is on again. I guess the one didn’t like what the other chattered. Jasper usually loses, but he doesn’t give up, those peanuts are just too good. Now and then another squirrel shows up and takes the peanuts while the other two are chasing each other. And the chipmunks do the same. So the winning squirrel loses anyway.
Speaking of losing, poor Sir George lost a fight big time yesterday and was knocked to the ground by that other large gull. And gulls need room to take flight, so Sir George was stuck on the ground, though he noticed the nice large yard next door and tried to go that direction, but there is a fence in the way. He kept trying to break his way through that heavy wire, to no avail. There is an opening in the fence, but he didn’t notice that. So I went out and herded him in that direction and he was able to fly away. Unfortunately he is likely terrified of me now, and he hasn’t come back again. I hope he will come back, but there’s a good chance he won’t after that ordeal. So sad. Glad I still have Sir Henry.
Well, the top featured image is a light pink yarrow. We saw the white and lavender varieties before, this light pink one is in my landlord’s garden. Yarrow is great for attracting butterflies and other insects.
And in the pic above is a nice Asiatic lily in a beautiful dark orange. My landlord has several different lilies and daylilies in her garden and more will begin to bloom this month. This is the first of the lilies to bloom. I hope you all have a wonderful Sunday and God bless!

Very Good Morning Steve β¨πWishing you an awesome Sunday πΈπ€ Well watching squirrels is a real fun isn’t it π. Poor Sir George, I think George should come early to have his part peacefully, Glad Sir Henry is still there, they have a heavy competition in between it seems. You should give them more space to have their food peacefully without fight π. Asiatic Lily looks so beautiful πβ¨π·

Yep, the last place I lived was better, it had a nice big driveway for feeding the gulls, they had lots of room to fly and play, I had them so friendly too. Oh well.
Thanks Simon, have a good night!ππΊππ΄

So sorry to hear about Sir George.
I have a new gull friend, Sammy. I think he is called a ring billed Gull.
I feed him and Scott, my herring gull separately, as Scott is not keen on having Sammy here. π€π·

Yes, herring gulls and ring billed gulls don’t get along too well. But Sir George would always let Rickie (my ring billed gull) sit on the feeder with him and eat. Kind of an odd sight. Ring billed gulls can be much easier to make friends with too. Have fun with your new friend!ππΊπββ

Yes, this was his 4th summer with me, terrible to lose him now, and that other gull doesn’t even show up very much. I hope the same thing doesn’t happen to Sir Henry.
Thanks so much!ππΊπββ

Say it ainβt so about Sir George! I thought he was the undisputed alpha gull!

Yep, I never thought it would be possible, but that other gull is close to the same size and maybe younger. It’s not a very big feeder for two big gulls to fight on so Sir George might have just stepped too close to the edge, and down he went. I just hope he comes back, but I doubt he will be as friendly now even if he does. I just hope the same thing doesn’t happen to Sir Henry. Sigh. 4 years with Sir George, he almost took food from my hand the other day too.
